Day trip on Sunday to the Powdercap north of Brandywine. Original plan was to ski Brandywine Glacier but there was about 20 cm of fresh, rain-soaked snow that was avalanching spontaneously all around. Took the safer Plan B and approached the Powdercap from a broad valley north of Brandywine.
Parked on the Callaghan Mainline in the lodge parking lot. Approached from Km 5 bridge over Callaghan Creek on the Wild Spirit Trail. An intriguing road branches west from the bridge to the valley north of Brandywine. I was speculating it was put in last year by the military for surveillance of Whistler Olympic Park. The road goes to a knoll overlooking the valley.
Branched off the road where it climbed up to the knoll and continued up valley. Climbed a 2200 meter peak 1.4 km west of Brandywine. We could have climbed Brandywine from there and descended the Brandywine Glacier but it wasn't in the cards Sunday due to the serious avalanche risk. Had a safe ski down our approach route.

There were about 8 or 10 sleds down in the hole between us and Cayley. Seems like they were playing it conservatively with the high marking. Wasn't too noisy up where we were.

Here is statistic
start 820 meters, highest point 2170, elevation gain 1350 meters, 28km return.

| Nice looking trip - lot's of ground covered. Things have really warmed up in the alpine the last couple of days. |
