AT and I needed to get away for an extended week-end so we headed out to our favorite playground, Pemberton. We booked 2 nights at the Pemberton Valley Vineyard and spent Saturday chillaxing and enjoying some quiet time.

Sunday morning saw us gearing up early and at the Joffre trailhead at 8:00am ready to go. Last time we did this trip it had taken us round trip 11 hrs to reach Mt. Taylor so we were expecting a big day as we hadn't been very active for the past couple of months.

Still winter up here, snow's barely begun to melt. Good for us as we were able to cut across the lakes and make it up to the third lake in a little over 1hr.

Quick snack break and sunscreen application and we're off for the col (top right in second picture below). Sun is in full force now and it's getting hot

Off we go! Snow if good and well consolidated. Barely sinking through and no evidence of recent avys.

We take another small break, snow is now isothermal and the going is a bit tougher. Last push for the col ...

We make it to the col at noon with great views all around.

We eye Mount Taylor but the temptation of sitting on our patio having a beer / glass of wine and a dip in the hot tub is more tempting

Pooh Bear still comes with us on every trip ...

We put on a pair of old shorts for the fun buttslide down but to our dissapointment the snow wasn't quite buttsliding ready! So we had to walk back down, totally sucked

Made it back to the car at 2pm for a 6hr round trip. Glad to have put in a good day's work, ~ 16km and 900m gain. Enjoyed the rest of the day at the B&B, had a good dinner and came back for some hot tub action . Drove back to the city today in the rain. Perfect week-end!

On a side note ... the Wildwood Pub is closed but there's a great little joint across the street that just opened up called the Mile One. Basic menu but the food is good and portions good for the price. We ordered 2 mac & cheeses (different variations) for around $30. Portions we're ginormous, perfect after a good day in the mountains.

Have to admit, we were a bit lazy when viewing Taylor from the col, we tried to keep it a mini vacation and 7 year anniversary and backcountry trip all within 48 hours

That first picture is great. In a couple of months with grapes it will be just a little sweeter.

What a great anniversary present. I think we're both pretty lucky to have life partners who share the joy of the mountains with us. I so love the Duffey and the Pemberton area. So many nice pictures and reports from that area lately - makes me really happy.

LOL'ed at the the sunscreen shot - I was reapplying 2x that each day the last few days

You guys certainly like this area. The ridge leading towards Duffey Peak needs to be done sometime.

Went there today on skis. Your TR was my inspiration. Sadly I had to revisit your TR to enjoy all the views I missed. 1.5'C when I parked and snowing on and off all day.

When I was in ninth grade, our teacher used to come back after spring break, from a skiing vacation in the rockies, all sunburnt
and looking like a raccoon where he was all white where his ski goggles were and red everywhere else on his face then, because it was the 1970's? he tried to cover it up with
"instant tan" cream that hadn't evolved in those days. He was lobster red and some kind of
funky orange and white on the non burnt parts.

So, didja get to ride some horses? (I remember)

Beautiful weekend, for sure! Great to book a place where you can take the doggies, too!!
Not a cloud in the sky. Fantastic pictures!! Looks like you two had a great time!
Nice break.

You bet! In fact, Lofty from CT was just here and we were talking about my attempt at hiking on snowshoes and fond memories of the whole trip up there. It was great!!! Ran into NS Explorer the other day in Zion with his son and I asked about Joffre lakes and he said that it will probably have snow into way late this year, get a break for a month, then start snowing again in October hehe... Oh!! Happy Anniversary!!!
