I'm interested in backpacking through Yosemite, Joshua Tree, Sequoia, or Death Valley for a week to two weeks between the dates of April 14th - May 9th.

I'm an avid hiker, nature enthusiast, easy-going young woman. I have a few girlfriends who are interested to do this backpacking trip, but we are hoping to form a larger group comprised of hikers who also have some experience with backpacking and hiking approx. 10 - 15 km/day.

I'm flexible about which National Park(s) we choose to explore, and can go on this trip any time within the date range listed above. If you're interested contact me and we can start corresponding!

Cheers

Kendra

We were in Yosemite at approximately the same time last year, and much of it was still closed due to snow. Might be a good idea to plan for one of the other places (or bring snowshoes).

That's what I've been reading too -- that there will still be snow in Yosemite in April and May. But it doesn't sound from what I've read and from talking to others like most of the park will be closed at that time -- there should still be lots to explore late spring. Either way I prefer snowshoeing to hiking, so I'm happy to ascend and descend in snow. I've also been reading that the waterfalls will be amazing at this time, and there are lots of hikes (without snow) that can take us to some spectacular spring sights.

My first choice is to go through what we can of Yosemite and the Sierras, but I've also been looking at Death Valley to the East. The terrain looks pretty amazing.

Right now I'm thinking the best time to go would be late April/first week of May. I have to be back in Vancouver May 8th.

Keep emailing me those who are interested!

Hi. I would be interested in that as well. Please let me know when you decide on some dates (I have to book a dog sitter) and if it's going to be one week or two. I only have one week and two days of vacation time to use from now until June.

Thanks,
Gina

sounds like fun but no way to get time off this spring. I'll be looking to do some longer trips in late aug / sept.

That sounds amazing. Wish I had the funds to get on that...

Keep an eye on current condition reports closer to your trip. These areas have been hit with a lot of snow this year (including a huge storm this past week that even closed Tahoe ski resort Apline Meadows). This much snow can mean a lot of flooding in the coming months.

Your challenge won't be hiking in the snow, it will be access. My experience hiking in California has been that they either don't plow access or they close trails completely. Tioga Pass road will still be closed for sure.

Last year a group of girlfriends and I hiked in the Thousand Island/ Garnet Lake area the last week of June, first week of July and the majority of lakes were still frozen and it was difficult to get around due to late snowmelt. The thru hikers were having difficulty getting through the passes. It all depends on the spring melt out, but I would suspect more of the same this year. There is lots to do down there any season, just do your homework and have some alternatives ready just in case.
