I was there in August, but I didn't hike in via the trail. I came in along the beach from the north at Palmerston Recreation area ( about 1 hour walk). I have hiked the trail many times in all seasons and it never seems to vary too much... the first 10 minutes is WET and pretty nasty, the middle 20 minutes is a really nice forest hike, and the last 10 minutes is a rooty, slippery, muddy downhill. Camping at Raft Cove is pretty much open depending on if you want to be on the beach, in the forest, exposed, or sheltered. The south end of the beach at the river offers everything. Water is a bit scarce... even at the river due to the tides. There is a small source right where the trail enters the beach, and there is another river about 10 or 15 minutes along the beach to the north of the trailhead. |

Hey BoardWalker, The trail is in good shape and the new campsites are great, three new pit toilets and three new food cashes. Are you thinking of heading in there? if so drop me a email. I can give you some more info.
