I'm sure everyone has read this thread :
http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=36502&whichpage=1

It got me wondering... How many do we have in our Rockies?

I know there's a bronze plaque embedded into Mount Buller (near the summit) which talks about a hiker who fell off the peak.

I know the RMB Forum put up a tiny memorial on Mt. Smuts for a member who fell to his death. However, it was in the form of a small pelican case and I didn't see it when I climbed it shortly afterwards.

Any others?

Finally stopping that crazy suffering that is ice, climbing to concentrate on great ski tours!

There's one on top of Mt. Thompson. The peak overlooks the Bow Lake and is located at the north/east end of the Wapta Icefields. However, the plaque is about a guy named Thompson, not the real person the peak is named after, and not someone that died on/near the peak.

There's a little thing at the Third Memorial Lake in memory of the thirteen people who died in three related plane crashes in 1986.

I seem to think there's a little thing on Blueberry Hill for the guy who died there of a sudden heart attack a bit back, but I haven't seen it personally.

This is not a summit memorial, but is located at Fortress Lake. The peak across the lake is named after him. I don't know his story, but the memorial is on a metal frame that is not in good shape

Are those the two which apparently haunt the Halfway Hut?

No, apparently a guy who died on the slopes of Fossil Mountain during the golden age of Skoki Lodge in the 1930's does a sneaky job in Halfway Hut.

Not sure, but that would make sense as it says the guy died on the mountain.

Hmm I don't recall seeing any rogue ones like Danny Epp's. I understand there's a Belmore Browne plaque at somewhere around Belmore Browne peak. I've gone up there twice and haven't seen it. I think it's below the summit, somewhere on a boulder.

There's that one on Grotto, but it's not at the summit. It's slightly hidden away on a small flat area on the Direct route up. I actually like the site chosen for that one....very low-key.

When I was on Crowsnest Mt. the other week there was a plaque/container of some sort in a plastic bag put on the side of the "crux" with a whole bunch of names on it. It's not a fixed thing but kept in place with a rock I think, didn't take the time to check it out but do have a foto of the thing

Center Peak in the Higwood range has a memorial on top and I believe it's for the ancestors of the family that has their land below it or for the people in the plane that crashed on this peak.

Thunder mountain has a plaque just after getting onto the ridge

I think I've seen more but have to go through my pictures

I don't remember what the plaque says, on the Whaleback in Yoho

There is also cairn structure with a plaque at Memorial Lakes in memory of the victims of three plane crashes.

In general most I’ve seen are discrete and appropriate IMHO. In K.country there is a program where people can donate money and have a bench placed to honor a loved one etc. It’s a good program that also spins some of the money into other improvements.

Is this one new, or just well off the path? I've been scrambling around the Elephant Rocks twice and never happened upon that.

There is a memorial plaque on Nahahi Ridge. It is on the west side on the first part of the ridge after the steel cable fence. I don't know if this young person died there or if friends put it up knowing he liked the mountains and this place.
