Got up early this morning to enjoy a view of it setting in the west an hour before sunrise.

Here's what it looks like straight from my Canon SX20IS, showing 4 of the moons at the time (left); and a shot of our closer moon at the same scale for comparison (right). Just a pair of binoculars will do for anyone without a big telescope.

Of course looking at our weather forecast here in Vancouver, it might be a while until we get to see it again!

a great past time. i've always thought about picking up an inexpensive telescope - it's a great compliment to a quick and quiet night in the outdoors.

too bad i can't stay up past 11pm....

Sansell.

Nice shot of the moon, and Jupiter looks bright.

I got a good shot of the moon just after moonrise, but failed to see Jupiter.

In the night sky, 11:00 P.M. PST I was able to see Jupiter below the Moon.

If you're looking at Jupiter through good binoculars or a telescope, one of the "Moons" is actually the planet Uranus. Right now Uranus appears to be very close to Jupiter in the sky and will continue to be close for the next couple of months. Normally you can only see 4 of Jupiter's moons through a small telescope.

I haven't had a look at Jupiter for several weeks now (it was 2 AM the last time). With my 8" scope I might even be able to see the klingons near uranus.
