22 of us with the Vernon Outdoors Club went to Monashee Lake and then on to Sunny Peak. A beautiful sunny and hot day. approx 700 m elevation gain to Monashee Lake, another 300 m to Sunny Peak.

Monashee looks like a great place. Wonder how far it is from Logan Lake ?

From Logan Lake - drive to Vernon - about 2 hours, then it will be another 2 hours to the trail head. From Vernon take Hwy 6 past Cherryville, turning onto the South Fork Forest Service Rd, signs are posted from there. Lots of great hikes in the area. (Vernon Outdoors Club has a great hiking book and website)

Hi Karl, If you like these pics, you might want to check out monashee provincial park as well. 1.5 hrs on the gravel north of cherryville. Less difficult driving than the logging roads into the pinnacles/monashee lake area. NSH backpacked in there last week. Great little place.

Wow, great pics! They remind me how many years it's been since I summitted the Pinnacles, I gotta get back there soon!!

I always felt it was the other way around. The Pinnacles are a much shorter drive on gravel.

i agree PMJ -the roads don't seem too bad for the most part and there are more hikes to do from North Fork forest service rd (Twin Lakes, Lakeview Mtn, Boulder Mt etc) and from South Fork - Pinnacles and Lake, Mt Beavan, Monashee Lake area. Monashee Provincial Park is beautiful too - but limited to Spectrum Lake(6km in) and then the hike to Peters Lake is out of reach for many people as a day hike. Driving to Monashee Prov Park -Spectrum Trailhead from Vernon still takes 2 hours +.

Re: distances on gravel... maybe it's my memory. It's been a few years since I went into Monashee Lake. I remember it being fairly rough. As to the park, It's attraction is definitely as a backpack destination rather than day hikes, unless you're into fishing for Rainbows at spectrum lake. Lovely day hikes though, if you backpack into Peters and stay a couple of days. See pics. One from Fosthall ascent showing Peters Lake, another from Valley of the moon day hike looking back to Mt Fosthall. (August 2010)
