Decided to make the best of the starting good weather we are having this week with a hike to the North Summit of the Chief in Squamish.
I hadn't hiked this one before so decided to see what it was like.
I've done the other main trails around the chief; the south and center summits and the hike to the Upper Shannon Falls. Of them, I personally like the center summit hike the most as it requires a bit of scrambling to get to the summit, the Upper shannon falls hike is longer than the summit hikes, by a good bit, but it's worth it. It Requires some talus scrambling in places. The views of the upper shannon falls aren't spectacular, but there is a summit that can be reached with views out of Squamish and the bay.
Of all the hikes, the North summit is by far the easiest to reach. As it is the highest (702m) I thought it would of been the hardest. The ascent is a lot more gradual than the other 2, requiring no chains or ladders in any areas. There are some good views from the top, but they don't really compete with the views from the South Summit imo, which has clear, 360' panoramas.

The hike to the summit, the walk is mostly on tree fall, roots and plant detritus

Some overly friendly chipmunks

It's been so long since we had such clear skies that we plan to make the most of it while it lasts. We hope to overnight camp at Joffre Lakes tomorrow.
I'd of liked to of overnighted at Elfin Lakes, but the most recent TR on here shows there is still too much snow up there. Hopefully, if this weather keeps up, we'll be able to do it in August.
The chipmunks were everywhere, I was worried I'd accidentally step on them at one point. It's funny how people don't mind rodents as long as they are cute. There was a bunch of girls up at the top letting the chipmunks run all over them, I was thinking would the situation be the same if it was rats, lol.
