We did this hike on June 12,2010. We decided to do this one as we have ridden this Mtn. tons on the bikes and thought it would be nice to see what else is there. Our initial plan was to go up to the summit and then come back via Dennet and Munro Lakes camping over night at one of the lakes. We left one vehicle on Quarry Road and then started our hike at the gun club just off Harper Road which is off Coast Meridian in Coquitlam. As we get out of the vehicle my buddy says; "Hey you know what, how about we take theses snowshoes I bought at Christmas just for the hell of it?" So off we go. At about an hour into the hike we come to this turning point. Check the snowshoes nicely strapped onto the pack."Just in case" The trail is well signed and fairly reasonable going through the woods once you get off the access road. Signs of logging from days gone by. There is a very nice section of walking along on a nice green carpet for awhile You drop down slightly to cross a river. That green algae covered flat rock on the front right side of the picture is more than a little slippy. The first lake you come to is Lily Pad Lake. This took us about 2-1/2 hours. This is also where we saw our first sign of snow. By the time we got to the second lake, Hourglass Lake, the snow had become damn inconvienient and it was time to make use of that good idea from the parking lot. Break out the showshoes and gaiters. Pretty well from Hourglass Lake to the peak and back we were using the snowshoes. With all the snow it took us 5 hours to get to the summit. The sun came out from behind a cloud and it was pretty nice with blue skies and lots of snow. Now to find our way down to Dennett Lake and set up camp. Ha! We were pretty sure there was a trail going from Ted Kay Lake, the third lake on the trip, to Dennett. However under this much snow we couldn't find a trail. Now we are thinking, "Well we carried all this gear all this way, lets just get out of the snow and find a nice place to camp by the river. Did I just say Ha? Well let me say it again , Ha! Nothing to be had as most of the trail is quite a ways above the river and fairly steep down to the river. We keep on going until we both know that we are going to be back at the car pretty soon. We are both thrilled that we decided to carry all the overnight gear up and down for no good reason. I think I'll just start carrying a pack full of bricks around with me wherever I go just to enrich the experience of say , going to Safeway or some such thing. Overall the weather was good, got to use the snowshoes and enjoyed the day out. Might want to make a note to do this one later in the year. |

I am not surprised you didn't find your way down to Dennet.. The trail is gone. I hiked up to the burke ridge summit from Quarry a few weeks ago and wouldn't have attempted it without having found a ghost trail with markers for the first bit and having my GPS tell me I was headed in the right direction. it was a full out bushwhack with the remnants of a trail.
The Dennet to Burke ridge trail needs to be remarked with orange squares at the very least. For me it was great I don't mind a little bush whack. Once on top of the ridge there where no more markers and it was simply a mater of following my GPS route I had marked and picking the best path along the ridge and ignoring my GPS glitching out now and then.
Fun trip though. Could you see Widgeon peak from the ridge summit while you where up there? |

This line made me chuckle. |

We weren't sure which peak was Widgeon. If it is the big one dead ahead then yes it was crystal clear. We did Widgeon a few years back. Great trip that was but I've heard it can get very busy up there lately. |

| We pretty well had zero flies. A nice pleasant change. We didn't spend to much time at the peak. Had sandwiches and a couple of beverages and headed down. |

| I believe the one to the furthest left is Coquitlam Mountain. I do not think Widgeon Peak is in this photo. |
