My first ever trail report:
I went to Elfin Lakes today. It was cloudy at 11:00 am at the trail head, but pleasant. There were very few cars in the lot, and I did not see too many people - perhaps a dozen - the whole day.
There was snow from about 2.5k up, as expected.
The sun came out as I climbed through Red Heather meadows, and the temperature was warm enough that I only needed a t-shirt and a windbreaker. The snow was deep but with gaiters and very little sinking down when in the snow (mid-ankle at worst in most places) it was great walking.
I stopped at the top of the ridge before the modest descent around to the lakes, and did not walk down to the lakes and the huts although I could see them across the valley.
My first ever Panorama picture

Some great views on the way out:

If this weather trend keeps up, new snow will add to the current pack and never melt out... Maybe 2010 is a mini mini ice age |

are the lakes melting out yet (blue ring around the perimeter) or are they still white-white?
amusing to see so much snow still up there. but with the warm front coming in next week, this should all be gone by August.
,,,I hope. |

| I did not go all the way to the lakes, but my guess (based on all the snow at Red Heather meadows and along the ridge to the lakes) would be that they are still wrapped in a deep blanket of snow and ice. |

That's a favourite spot of mine for pictures too. |
