After seeing all the postholing trip reports we decided to do a lower elevation hike yesterday & wait for the snow to go!

Widgeon fit the bill as I had only been as far as the cascades before & really enjoyed the paddle over as well.

Hit the water @6:30AM:

About an hour later we hit land again & started off with a few light showers-uh oh, sign of things to come. The logging road is well marked & all junctions were signposted too.

Then you get into the bushy bits & we were both soaked from the foilage :( Dog was not happy either. The rain was very light & mostly absent at this point. Came to a few nice falls:

Then the famous bridge:

Eventually the trail proper started, more wet bush & wet pants.....

Lots of deadfall during the final steep push, quite slippery as the clouds drew down upon us...

Finally after 4.5 hrs the lake-poor views I am afraid..

A biffy for those confident, non-shy ones:

As we started to return the downpour started in earnest-not fun as it persisted most of the way back to the canoe. Joey (the wiener dog) kept trying to go to ground so had to be put on his leash.

Paddle back was better though as the rain had stopped, although we felt we were being watched...

Longish hike for the poor weather, back to the car @4:45.

no quitting

You sure got an early start; you must have your own canoe or is the Rental Shop open this early? Nice report and pictures - including the bear watching you paddle. Considering that you had a "wiener" on board, I hope you gave bruin a wide berth. Long day, but great accomplishment!

Pretty cool. Someone is actually rebuilding the outhouse. That's been down for years. Nice hike. It seems this year if you don't hike in the rain, then you don't hike. Try it on a warm day. It's quite peasant.

no, we had our own canoe, Ayla opens @8AM.

I'm sure its more pleasant on a nice day as said-don't know if/when we'll go again, too many others to go on!

see, you say the weather was crappy etc... but your photos are gorgeous. I love the gentleness of the weather, the soft light. everything looks magical.

speaking of magic. Assuming that it was just your puppy and you at the start at 6am, who took the first picture? :)

I must be blind, I've never seen that outhouse before. I saw the wrecked one last year? Is this new?

Also, cool TR. The slough somehow looks good even on a cloudy rainy day.
