Eugene and I went up Mt. MacFarlane on Saturday.

The bridge below the first lake is broken:

Snow started around the first lake. We didn't follow the summer trail, but went up the gully to the right of the trail (left-centre of the photo below).

Then we re-joined the standard route along the ridge.

Views from the summit:

Enjoyable way to spend a sunny Saturday.

After recent off-trail adventures, I somehow thought of this one as easy. It wasn't, taking us us 10 hours. It was seriously hot on those snow slopes. Overall, a nice outing though. And we've run into some familiar people on the way down.

Nice going.
Lots of snow up there still.
Is it packed or soft in places?

I really like that area, and want to go back to finish Mt. MacFarlane someday.

This is good info. Was there an obvious crossing near the bridge, or did you cross through the middle of this photo?

When Dorothy and I went later on in summer (last year) the water levels had dropped enough that one could mostly walk those logs and hop across.

Anyway great report. I was wondering how things were up there!

Wally, the snow was mostly good, getting softer later in the day, but no need for snowshoes.

Sam, there are some logs jammed together a little above the old bridge:

Well done, and thanks for this. : )

Here is a picture of Katie crossing that broken bridge back in July. You can see by her back legs how slippery it was. : )

Spectacular shots, one of my favourite destinations. Love the two lakes.
