Our original plan was to ascend Mount Athabasca and possibly Mount Andromeda. Rain chased us away Saturday morning to David Thompson Country where we ascended Mount Ernest Ross. After scrambling Mount Ernest Ross we headed back to the icefields center where we found out that it hadn't been freezing overnight. There were plenty of visible avalanches, including on on the ramp of the Athabasca Glacier. We gave up on a ski ascent. After leaving the icefields center we went on a short hike I was interested in checking out. We crossing the Sunwapta which was a foot deep and hiked along the flats to the Stutfield Glacier. It took us 2 and a half hours round trip. On Sunday we decided to ascend Hawk Mountain. It was cloudy and threatened to rain on us throughout the day. We managed to gather a few ticks on our weekend as well. I counted at least 10 among the 3 of us. I was being very cautious about avoiding bush and managed to get away with only 2 ticks. We found Peter Amanns footprints in the snow on Hawk Mountain. He had been up there 2 days previously and left us a lot of fresh flagging, which made it much easier to stay on route.

Here are links to my photos from our adventures.

Great pictures Eric. It snowed a lot last night up there. It's good that you got your trip in when you did

Great photos, thanks for posting. Next week, I'm going to be a bit north of Mount Ernest - it's nice to see ahead of time how the area is doing for snow.

Too bad your original plan didn't pan out, but good work getting some early season scrambles instead. Your photos are simply amazing!
