Start: Snowline on Airplane Creek FSR, 10am

Objective: High Point on Ridge between Laughington and Lady...and some choss pile, rocky fang sticking up on the backside of Lady.

We followed the road beneath Laughington to its end, with our eyes on the ridge, determined to ascend which would put us at a good start point to maybe scramble up some rocky pinnacles that looked rotten and exciting...Keeping on the beautiful ridge and listening to avalanches in the baking hot sun with 20m of snow under us, we finally came to the high point of the ridge around 1:30pm... We had a group meeting and decided who wanted to proceed to the secondary objective. Norm decided to sun tan and wait for us, and the 5 of us proceeded further up the ridge. Soon after, Sheena decided to take a break and relax on the ridge while we went further up.
As we climbed higher, the thunder from avalanches started to get us to second guess our plan. We were safe on the ridge with nothing above us, but on both our flanks, snow was crashing down.
We gave it our best to get to the chossy horn, but ultimatley it wasnt worth the danger of proceeding under a slope that may sweep us down like airplane parts. As well, with two members patiently waiting for us on different parts of the ridge, we thought it would be best to go down and get started with the descent...Plus Norm had bought steaks, and did not want to be barbecuing at midnight.
Overall, it was a fun day with a good group that had no expectations other than to play around on a ridge and get a good tan. We reached the truck at around 6:30pm...Eric, Kevin, Sheena, Norm, Kelly, and myself all had a great day with great scenery...
Thanks Kelly for the great pics! Photo Journalism at its best...

| Looks great. I've never been up the Airplane Ck FSR. What elevation was the snowline at? How is the road condition? |

Thanks for posting the report Adam! What a wicked day out...

1. Avalanches 2. Bear (black or grizzly?) 3. Wumping grouse 4. Waterfalls 5. A scenic ridge ascent 6. Fantastic company 7. and white fang-like peaks biting the blue skies as far as the eye can see...
...a simple recipe for a day to remember.
Suggestions for the next trip location anyone...Urquart?
See you soon..

| Nice report and pics, strangely I imagined Avalanche threat before even getting to it in the report. Awesome shots of the avalanche. |

Hi Woodyacat,
The road condition is great. no washouts...no major cross ditching, couple steep sections otherwise you could almost do it with 2WD.
The snow elevation was around 1200m.
Cheers! Kelly |
