OK, dumb title but hey you read it!
I've read several backpacker recipies which call for chicken in a foil pouch. I've found tuna and salmon but no bird.
So anyone know where I can get some? Out here in the valley would be the best.
Thanks! G
ps, the salmon I trried had a foil-ly taste. |

| I've only seen it across the border. Fairly common there. |

Thanks for the info. The foil/fish I found was at Hagen's in Bellingham. It's "fresh" or canned/foiled not freeze dried. So I'm looking for the chicken.

| So far in Canada I have only found fish in the foil pouches. For chicken I continue to make do with the canned variety which isn't as convenient and doesn't pack as well but is the same otherwise. I expect it's just a matter of time before some of our food processors up here make the switch. |

| Here in Wisconsin the grocery section of Walmart has chicken in the pouch. It's found near the tuna, etc. |

My wife found some at Target (Bellingham, WA) last week. I haven't tasted it yet.
Thanks to all who posted suggestions!

I've found foil pouch chicken at Safeway in Linden and in some of the larger Walmarts in WA. Tastes great. We used it last summer when we paddled the Yukon. Tasted wonderful as a chicken salad in a wrap (used McChicken sauce for mayo) and to make "chicken casseroles" with Sidekicks noodles for supper.
Cheers! |

You can dehydrate canned chicken quite successfully. It will rehydrate in 15 to 30 minutes with hot water. Because of the way chicken is canned and cooked with pressure it rehydrates much better than home-cooked chicken. Home-cooked chicken can be dried as well as long as it was cooked in a moist method (in a sauce or pressure cooker). However, it will take 45 mins to 1 hour to come back if you start with boiling water and use a cozy and it won't come back quite as plump as it was before drying. For our group it's worth it though.
