Is promoting your own business permitted on this site? If so, it opens up a huge Pandora's box to turn this site into a spam-like free-for-all. It would be nice to see promoting your own business on this site banned before it is too late. I find Norona promoting his business on this site shameless......

I just read the site's guidelines today, since I'm new to the site. This is what they say on this matter for anyone interested. Interpret as you will:

No advertising or links to advertising or "Spam" is permitted.

* Advertising or Spam is defined as posting a link for the purpose of selling, soliciting or promoting by someone that has ownership or other "vested interest" to the web site involved, including efforts to promote other online forums or web sites (with competing features) by web site owners or members.
* Posts and links about fundraising (including nonprofit fundraisers) are NOT permitted.
* Only links to personal home pages are allowed in signatures, member profiles and in the submit a site section.
* Links to helpful web sites (commercial or otherwise) are allowed when they are posted by someone without any "vested interest" AND whose purpose is NOT to solicit, advertise, promote, fundraise, etc.
* These rules include forum messages, signatures, and forum emails.

Hmmmm...Well, if you see those two boxes that say, "products and services" I really don't think those products and services are free. Selling stuff qualifies as a "vested interest."

Thanks for posting, another great video.
Norona is one of the most adventurous person on this site, I like his videos and website promoting adventure sports & safety they are great. Keep us updated on new trips / adventures Norona. Don't let a few bad apples spoil the barrel. This is one of the few safety promoting threads I've seen this year so far.

Seems like anytime someone has something good, someone has to knock it. I don't consider Norona spamming, and I've seen a good majority of his threads, he experiences and shares more adventures than some would experience in numerous lifetimes. He's contributed more safety threads / videos than anyone else on CT if I recall. Knocking him for sharing this is just childish, I shouldn't have to say it, it is obvious.

You guys are such whiny bitches. If you bothered watching the videos its got a lot of useful safety tips. Sure Norona could be more subtle with the personal marketing

Yeah, promoting getting out there and reminders on safety on an outdoors community site ... bad idea. How dare you Dave

More important than the soul-searching question of whether the video should have been posted or not (I thought it was pretty benign personally)....where was the footage shot? Looks like nice terrain.

Norona coulda posted the way you imply with some "brought to you by" or "support my sponsors" right in his posted, or could be directly selling his own guiding/instruction services (i.e., "take an avalanche course from me"). He didn't. He just posted a link for those who are interested in backcountry ski safety, which hopefully applies to lots of users of this forum.

There's a lot more value in that type of post than a lot of other trip reports & various other threads that you can find on here. I'm sure there's also other examples of users/posts with vested interest etc. if you want to get into that. Lots of people who work in the outdoor industry one way or another have good stuff to add, I'm glad they contribute to forums. The Canadian Avalanche Centre and other orgs have sponsors too, I hope that doesn't mean wouldn't welcome input or links from CAC.

Lighten up. If it's good content for the interests of the site and presented inoffensively, awesome. Thanks Norona.

On the contrary, I wish retailers, resorts, gov departments and other orgs had staff with user IDs on the forum who come on and particpate in threads about their products, services and expertise.

Pat.

...Putting The Canadian Avalanche Center in the same category as Norona is good for a laugh but not much else....I don't see CAC pushing bogus health pills.

Come think of it, I never managed as a consumer to thank the numerous products that made all treks possible over the years as they proved to be everything advertised in regards of quality, reliability and safety:

And finally, to recognize notable moments:

Apres-hike refreshment

* Needless to say this is done with humour. My comment would be "talk is cheap". If one disagree, no need for hostility, just report the matter and the site moderator will decide is this thread is viable.

Nice website Norona.

I said before: Club Tread is a hobby, not a way of life.
