| Any cost? Would it be worth my time to attend only the morning? I have another event in the afternoon. |

I believe I saw a cost of $20 for the one closest to me. There are half a dozen of them around B.C. and Alberta coming up.
Also, the workshop is Nov. 7 in Vancouver ... the thread title reads "Nov 5" |

| Some of the specific topics include ATES rating exercises, virtual ski tours in the Cerise/Vantage, Marriott Basin areas off the Duffey. Extended ski tours in SWBC, looking at ski touring with Avy Eyes, some case studies of larger SWBC avies last year, Tony Daffern's third edition of his avalanche theory text, and other good stuff. |

I went to this on Saturday along with a friend and enjoyed it very much. The focus was on Terrain evaluation and choosing safe routes. Picked up Tony Daffern's Book which is well written. Mitch's Route Disection of the Marriot Basin was enlightening along with Colin's for the Joffre area. Many thanks to Cam and all the presenters who put on a good workshop.
Scott Aitken provided some amusing comedy relief with his discussion on the Duffey Lake Corridor avi control program and other interesting tidbits.

And a hacker that can help us get around the safeguards so we can set off that big ass propane gun!

So disappointed I missed this! I had been planning to go for over a month but came down with the beloved swine flu on Thursday and couldn't in good conscience expose you all to my filth as I will still a bit of a mess on Saturday. Instead I slept all day, determined not to let this powdery weekend go to waste, feeling a bit better by Saturday night, decided a tour down to Baker was the cure and it delivered. I feel much better now and no need to wait in line for the flu shot!
Some fruits of my buddy and I's labour(ed breathing)...

| I should add if anyone has any of the material available to pass along to me in soft copy, I would be forever in your debt. Really was tragic to miss as I look forward to the seminar each year. |

| As it's coming to Calgary this weekend, I'd love to hear the thoughts of anyone who made it out. |

This was my second workshop. There were at least twice as many people there this time as last.
I always love Baldwin's talks after all the avalanche safety lectures. "This is a great long avalanche chute to ski down and that avalanche path takes you right to the highway. This avalanche path can be quite dangerous but in the right conditions..."
I liked the terrain selection focus of the talks this year. I really enjoyed msulker's Cowboy Ridge presentation last year and the insights into the Marriot Basin this year. It's great to be able to tap into some local knowledge and see the terrain through eyes that have seen what can come down and under what conditions.
matosan's and Cam's Spearhead traverse looked like a great outing and it was good to see and hear what went into their specific route selection and what options there are out there.
Too bad there wasn't a Gasex demo. I have a friend that worked avalanche control in Roger's Pass who has some great avalanche footage from Howitzer shots.
This was very much a local talk so I don't think it will directly relate to the quality of the other workshops. I enjoy them mostly to get into the right frame of mind for winter travel.
A big thanks to all the presenters! (since I know that a few frequent this site) |
