I decided to take my youth group to Pierce Lake on Oct. 5, and 6. The directions were excellent to the trailhead. The hike itself was steeper and longer than we prepared for. The trail kept going up and up. The trail was well groomed (good work Chilliwack Outdoor Club). The hike to the lake took the group six hours to complete. Ever "run out of gas" on a hike. Normally, I am faster than the students and end up carrying extra tents, but for some reason, I really got tired. The North campsite at the lake was occupied, so we ferried the group of 6 students across in the canoe at the lake. The south campsite was much better.
I expected a distance of about 4 km and elevation gain of about 600 m. In reality, it appears that the distance was more like 6 k and elevation gain was between 1100-1200 m. The kids adapted well.
An odd incident was there was a stray dog hanging around the North campsite. The other group took it down to take to the SPCA.
Thanks to whoever brought the canoe up. It was great!

Hey Cam, good work taking those younguns up to Pierce Lake! Good to hear that the canoe is still up there and operational. I really don't care for the first campsiter anyway, as there's so much garbage around it. Sounds like you had a good time...try any fishing there?

Pierce Lake is one of my fondest memories of the summer. We overnighted at Lower Pierce, and summited Macfarlane the next day. Beautiful area, upper Pierce Lake is stunning!!
