Got up for an early jaunt this fine BC Day. Given we're headed home today, needed to make it a quick one so went to the nearby Kenna Cartwright Park to explore. Its quite a maze of trails at this park. I managed to pull a trail map off of the local city website. The nice part about this park is that you can pretty much do your own route and see things that interest you. This is the route I ended up doing:

Tower 188, 63, 377, 177, 157, 399, 4, 476, 6 M
Ridge 1482 M
Ponderosa 677, 990 M (Somewhere I short circuited this trail and was on Big Pine above Ponderosa)
Tower 157 M
Powerline 863 M
Prickly Pear Cactus 611 M
Tower 188 M

Not a long trip, only about 6.8KM.

The biggest gain points were going up to the tower. The ridge was nice. A couple steep spots but nothing major. Mostly downhill, but rolling ups n downs. Ponderosa saw a bunch of the elevation gained back. Powerline then gained more again before dropping to Prickly Pear Cactus and then back to the lot.

Trailhead

Going up Tower Trail

View of Thompson River

Tower

Moving past and along Ridge Trail

Continuing along Ridge, not much cover except for a few spots. Definitely most suitable for early morning hiking

Spotted a grouse in the tree

Continuing along Ridge Trail

Cutting back to Big Pine Trail - heading back towards original location

A view of the prison from above

Also managed to catch a glimpse of a deer

Big Pine Trail and Ponderosa Trail connector

Connector to PowerLine Trail

The rest of the trip back was just cutting along Powerline and then down to Prickly Pear Cactus Trail.

Nice outing - took about 1:45. I'd recommend it for those visiting and looking for a quick morning leg stretcher.

I even try to find a way to break away in Vegas for some hiking, every trip I take hehe
Good going. Nice to clear the pipes and get the heart pumping. Lucky to see the deer.
I like the proximity and views to the river. Great summer! Bring it on!

Jim, that's a great way to do it. A quick select your own route, love those kind of choices.
