I was there but didn't bother with any photos - where did you take the picture of the ferries doing their little dance - Burrard St bridge?

I watch them from right underneath the Bridge.

Cheers

Is it just me or are those fireballs of light landing mighty close to the boats in the third picture. That must be quite a show from that vantage, scary. I trust the pyrotechnicians are masters of their craft and the boats are at a "safe" distance more or less. Still though, a gust of wind and those white painted masts are set aflame.

Given the strong popularity and growth of the sport of extreme marine fireworks viewing, I see a niche market opportunity in Nomex deck shoes and other fire retardant naval inspired casual wear.

We can't forget the kayakers. Nothing makes you realize the value of a kevlar/fiberglass kayak over say a plastic, inflatable, or even a gorgeous hand carved wood model, then when testing out its fireproofness with speeding streaks of explosives.

Lets not forget in this the incredible irony of catching fire whilst floating in/surrounded by water.

The answer is deck shoes.

LOL Splitboarder, you might be onto something there. I was out on the water myself tonight but didn't get quite that close. Awesome captures Ryan, thanks to you I won't be posting any of the shots I took from the canoe

Wow, Ryan, those are great shots!

This is the best I could do using a hand-held point-and-shoot from a bouncing canoe:

Forget about the Celebration of Light tonight. Nature put on its own show.

A double whammy - nice electrical storm, and a sunset the likes of which I have never before seen.

Seriously, look at these vids:

LOVE Love love the orange shots.

my contributions:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/seawallrunner/3756383401/ now that was thunder and lightning. especially lightning

but before that, we simply had a few innocent sheets of rain

http://www.flickr.com/photos/seawallrunner/3756123469/

I made a little animation with the lightning bolts I did catch with the camera:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/seawallrunner/3758502826/ (let it load a bit, then it goes full speed)

and here's my orange sky

That storm kept us off the water but I must say, out at UBC that was quite a lightning show! As for the sunset, you only get that kind of orangy yellow light once in a rare blue moon.

Ha, I was wondering if someone had managed to capture the fabulous sunset with a better foreground than mine. I was stuck at home with a mighty cold, so I only managed this shot from my balcony - Panasonic LX3, straight out of camera!

Thats awesome Chris...! I love your photo for backup because given how strange that lighting was, people would accuse me of doing funky photoshop colour changes :p

On the urging of Haggishiker here are the photos of the lightning from our balcony. I couldn't set up the tripod in a dry place (haggis obligingly held an umbrella).
