Hello Everyone:
Down for a day to Vancouver area, before heading back up via near Edmonton. Last Saturday walked from town south to explore the dinosaur fossil beds, a nearby falls, and then up to visit the famous "Bald Spot" for a good view of town.
Here are some of the photos, led by a few maps.
Down the road to Tumbler Ridge, then walk onto the Flatbed Trail.
After viewing the dino fossil tracks, headed over to overhang rocks and falls upstream...
...hike along Kevin's Trail, cut across north to the Highway..
Then a 3 to 4 km walk on ATV track along Highway to do the Bald Spot.
..last pic steep part with tricky loose shale.
Bald Spot as seen from Town...
In the area of the Bald Spot, and the views as seen of the town:
... last pic, distant mountain where the Trend Mine is, and my place of work.
Nice little grunt of a hike, about 25 minutes on tired legs after the prior 15-18 km of trail and ATV road walking.
Pleasant trails for light hiking..

Nice looking picture of flowering Muskeg, Indian, Labrador, or Hudson's Bay Tea (Ledum groenlandicum). In the fall the undersides of the leaves will change colour to orange and then is the best tea time.
Looks like you almost walked around the out skirts of the whole town.
Interesting Dino tracks, Karl.
Is the weather getting warmer? |

Hello Wally.
Over the two days, almost walked the entire town. Plus the four adjacent trail attractions south, west, and east of town. There is a trail sytem leading up to and past the golf course, I have not checked out as yet. I will have my car for the next outing, which will cut out all the road and highway walking.
The town is mild compared to the mine site, frequent icy winds and some snow on a few of the days last week. Bone chilling just to walk across the yard when used to the warm conditions of Vancouver.

I rained a bunch all the way from Dawson Creek to Tumbler Ridge yesterday. And blowing a good wind with rain at this time. Hopefully it will dry up in time for the weekend.

Drove to the spot by the highway, at a turnout spot near where I came out on my last visit up 'Upper Flatbed Creek & KevinsTrail.'
Entry across from gas pump house.. which is near new and active logging near the highway. ..See this map posted...
Entry way here market by flagging tape with definite little used trail.
..joined up with main trail following along top of cliff edge above Flat Bed Creek. ..
Forest on edge of cliff, plus pine stripped by recent Lightning Strike.
On the return to the car.. path led to the new logging. Pump Building visible through trees.
..
Closeup of Equipment: .Delimber arm to remove branches off felled tree.. .Cutting head to cut trees off at near ground level.
An interesting evening out on the trails of Tumbler Ridge. This marks completion of hiking the full length of the Flatbed Creek Trail System. 5 km total this evening..
