| Not sure if something has changed or maybe it's just on my end but when someone replies to a trip report say that happened 2 days ago, does it not go to the top of the page anymore? |

| Ah okay... Thanks Dru.... The TRs are now set to be in date order of the creation date. Does that make things more difficult now? |

| I was indifferent when I made the switch, but I really like the new order a lot more. It's a lot easier to find interesting TR's. Before, everything got swamped if one or two posts had a lot of comment activity. Made it next to impossible to use. |

The TRs are now set to be in date order of the creation date
In that case, can you add the thread creation date on the thread list?
Currently you can see the thread creation date only by clicking on the title of the thread in the list, and then by looking for the date of the first post in the thread.
It would be user-friendlier to see the thread creation date right on the list of threads in a given section. Here's an example of what I am suggesting, from another hiking discussion group:

I strongly dislike the change. I replied to a thread that was a couple of weeks old asking for info. Before it would have been bumped up to the top of the forum. Now there is no chance anyone will see my question. The only solution is to create a new thread, littering the forum with what should have been a quick follow-up to an existing thread.
There should at the minimum be an option to sort the threads by "new replies first" as opposed to by creation date. |

| It does get bumped to the top if you view under "Active Topics" as opposed to Hiking-British Columbia-Mainland. However, I prefer the old way too, but do like the little preview. |

| Adopting seawallrunner's suggestion of adding a column for the creation date, and then allowing the sort order to be determined by clicking at the head of the appropriate column, the way the members list currently functions, would make everyone happy. |

The top left menu in Active Topics should give you the option of whether you want it to show activity in the last few minutes/hours/days or weeks.
I too greatly dislike the new way though. There should be at least an option to view by replies. i think the post date would be neat to use sometimes, but I hate that you can't see if someone has commented on an old one. |

Yeah, I've had to get used to using the Active Topics button from now on, no big deal I guess. I just never used that button before.
Thanks for clarifying this change to the people that replied back. |

You can toggle it to be anything from last week to last 15 minutes... |

| I also much prefer the way the tr section was. If one posts a question or comment it does not get bumped up to the top...therefore it never gets seen. Please return it to the previous format. |

| Might have to look at adding the created field and then allowing people to sort either way they prefer. It makes sense both ways, so maybe both would work and give the choice. |

I'm strongly on the side of the new way - ordered by creation date. Nothing is set in stone, but ultimately I see the trip reports migrating out of the forum entirely - think of a blog post/article writeup with "forum style comments" beneath.
Also adding support for specifying trip members/etc so they can potentially add their content to the report as well.
What used to drive me nuts was people saying "Cool trip!" and bumping the same trip over and over and over. It made it seem like there was only 2-3 new trip reports in the system, when in reality there could have been 10 or 20 trips that are forogotten under all the fluff.
Adding sort options introduces new clutter - it's an option, but I'd like to see it as a last resort. I guess I'm a big fan of the "out of the way" posts that receive fewer comments, and it frustrates me to no end when they get swamped under bumps. The only exception I see is when people use "reply" to add new TR content, but people have already been adapting their behavior. It makes the reports easier to read, anyhow.
Footnote: Even if the TR change happens one day, the goal is to still have a "forum-like" list of them integrated with everything else to make it easy to read and navigate. That's similar to what we have today. |

I like it the way it is too. Creation date should be added too though. If there's too many people whining about the new style then implement a "sort dropdown" top right, otherwise I'd just leave it, it is perfect the way it is.
Another nice feature would be a spell checker addon to the textboxes, it could be handy, considering the mountain grammar cops are always on doughnut duty . |

Mabye the problem is the fluffy "nice trip" by the people who want huge post numbers under there name. Maybe a post needs to have 30 words or more to count.
I have to agree with the others, I liked it when someone asked a question and it moved the thread to the top agian.
Really though all I need to know is how to find the questions people are asking. Maybe put a modifier in the active topics so it only shows TR from the region I want to respond to.

| Here's my 2 cents. I was going to update a TR I did from back in the summer where I just posted a link to a flickr set because my computer was getting really slow and I was short on time. I was planning on adding pics and a complete writeup but now I won't bother because noone except me will know that I did all that work. So if I want to do that, now I will just create a new thread if I even decide to do it. Less motivation to create a new thread than to update an old one. |
