1.) north needle from south needle #8hydraulic creek falls
I've been jonesing for some views after spending 10 days in Saskatchewan so I thought I would ride my bike up to seymour road from knight street bridge, hitchhike to the top and then hike 3rd peak which I haven't done yet.
Left at 10am and by the time I was riding up the start of the Richard Juryn trail by Cap College I realized I was heading the wrong way - and I didn't have any food or water!
I decided to keep going, didnt want to lose the elevation, I would buy some chocolate at the Lynn Valley Store and then double back to get some water and hike up hydraulic creek. By noon I had stashed my bike and after a swig of some brandy to get the blood flowing I was on my way into the forest at km6 the hyraulic creek bridge
Immediately I f'd up and crossed the creek following some flagging that disappeared and then reappeared and ended at a big douglas fir tree. ok cool. What to do? I decided to keep going up. There was a gulley to the left of the tree that would allow me to get in between some rockwall cliffs. As the going got going I realized there was no turning back now I would just get to the top and then go to lynn peak, down that trail and then walk back to my bike . Long walk but I had enough time.
I got up to a plateau and from there I still had to keep going up. Good thing I brought my gloves. At one point I thought I was stuck but I kept following the cliff and now there was a bit of a creek gulley in between two side cliffs so I followed that up and up and WHAM BAM THANK YOU SAM I was very happy to see some flagging at the top . I was on the ridge. It said middle needle.
From there it was easy going to the ridge junction where I picked up a route description of the way back down Hydraulic Creek. At the top the views were great. Great little peak
liked how I could see down lynn valley creek and seymour valley river on the other side.
Gotta say great little trail this is, who's ever baby this is, it's a beauty.
The trail down was very easy to follow all the way down to the road with lots of markers and elevation markers . Don't cross the creek until your halfway up the mountain! happy hiking!

Good on ya! The Needles are an uncommon destination, but a worthy low elevation grunt hike. Mick probably knows who put in the trail - maybe he'll reply... |
