Not my mountain pictures yet..but nevertheless hiking in the National Park in Nepal..in the jungle.
I only spend two days hiking and the rest of the days resting/relaxing and cycling the villages.
The park is known for it's wild animals. Animals roaming freely. Animals that have killed and attacked villagers/guides as well as tourists. There are numerous stories of Rhinos attacking..or Tigers eating. Not joking.
I was a bit freaked out..but went anyways. Unfortunately my two days were shortened due to me not being well (spice in food not treating my body well...had some difficulty hiking in to the park)...so we went straight to the guesthouse where we had planned to stay that night. Nobody is allowed to stay in the jungle. You must exit at dark. Unless you have paid money to stay at the tower inside the jungle.
The second day we explored a bit and saw some fantastic birds, crocs and rhinos. Not many animals around as 3 times a year the villagers are allowed to enter the jungle to collect bamboo/shrubs/leaves for the roofs of their homes (monsoon season coming up)..and I happened to be there when the villagers were collecting. Incredibly interesting regardless. They must leave by nightfall.
Two villagers got eaten by a tiger the afternoon I was exploring..in the same area!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the following week, a tourist got killed by a Rhino...
We did a small walk to the tower in the jungle another day to get some views and see the river..A big noise and movement in the jungle made us run..run as if we were being chased. It was a Rhino coming in our direction..we moved just in time as it would have run us over. An elephant tour was following it, so it was getting away.
Great place to visit..just beware of the rhinos and tigers!
Here are the pics. http://www.flickr.com/photos/33343910@N00/sets/72157618615096835/ |

| Cool stuff, Oriana. You've been all over the place, lately. Nice to have a little wildlife-induced fear thrown into the mix. |

Lions? and Tigers? and Bears? oh my!! Way cool! What an amazing cultural experience. I like the monkey picture, the best. I love monkeys!! You might say I have a kinship. Can't wait to see the mountain pics. I wouldn't be able to handle the jungle trek. No way. Fear factor too high to be comfortable. Maybe on a vehicle tour or hot air balloon.

Great report/pics oriana....we have also been there and enjoyed our stay very much. Also saw 2 rhino but no tigers...maybe that's a good thing. The spider shot is a good one. Great colours.
Did you partake in an elephant bath? After watching an elephant get bathed by its owner, tourists climb up on them, take photos and eventually get thrown in to the river. This was not for me, so I asked if I could help bath the elephant. I did and it was the best experience.
We were every impressed with the dug out canoes. The locals would stand up in them with their bicycles and get taken across the river. Steady as a rock.
Glad you are enjoying your trip. We go back in October but not to Chitwan this time. Your photos bring back good memories. |
