Except for Vedder I havent hiked in well over a month so I needed a steep but not long trail- Hope was the answer. I've only been up there once before when the snow and ice were on the trail, it's nice and dry now, I had forgotten just how steep some of the spots were and I'm surprised we made it up there with the ice on the trail(Flowing-Brook,Log Walker and myself). On the way up I only noticed a few winter "wounds" - Just passed these stairs the trail is starting to slide -looking up -and at the spot-- There are a couple of logs accross the trail but one is an easy step-over and the other a walk through- The doc increased my blood pressure medi and told me it might make me feel tired for a couple of days so I dont know if it was from the lack of hiking or the medi but it seemed to take forever(hour and 15 mins) before I finaly reached my lunch spot-
What a difference in color between the swollen muddy Fraser and the slate-blue lake water-
After I finished my lunch I didnt want to leave but I was tired of sitting so started looking around- looking up-slope I wondered if it was worth the climb to check the view at the top of the slide area but decided against it, I had a late start (12:15) plus my energy wasnt the best. I suddenly noticed a trail that continued across the slide area, I had to check that out-
About a hundred feet later I discoved this- (Most everyone probably knows about it lol but to me it was a discovery lol and it made my day)- The second bench-and-looking back at the first one-
What a great little spot and there's some shade if your up there on a real hot day. There's room to "sprawl" and lean against your pack and really relax and enjoy the view. Such a small change in angle but it opens up the view as compared to the first bench. Here's a pic from the first bench of the bridge -and one from the second bench-- Still at the second bench- the classic view shot plus looking down you can see the overpass you drive under to park at the TH- I decided to drop in to the Silver Chalice for a beer and burger but it was closed-blaa- went to plan "B"- back to Chilliwack for Chinese food and ice cream lol- had a great day, hope everyone else did too. Take care but have fun, Ed |

Nice one, Ed. Open view of Hope shows its layout well. Perhaps one see others well enough to wave and wave back...
I guess this was what you were thinking about, one of the local Hope hikes you wanted to do.

Thanks Aces--If you go down Flood Hope Road the Silver Chalice is on the right hand side about 5 mins or so from the overpass.
Your welcome Lynn, if it's a hot day it's a nice spot to head for.
Thanks Karl. (Possably re thinking about doing a Hope trail was ment for Aces?) |

I heard the Silver Chalice closed for good. But Skinny's Grille is always an option.
