I had read in one of the dirt bike sites that due to the closing of Herrling Island the ATV clubs were planning to descend on Vedder as an alternative area and widen the existing trails for multi use so I was curious to see if this had happened or was just rumour. I'm happy to say that the trail is in excellent condition except for some minor repairs that will be needed in the near future. The road to the TH however is real crappy. Along the way I noticed a lot of new signs -"Mountain bikes only", "No ATV's", "Dirt bikes only" etc.
When I got to the TH all looked well with the "Hiking Trail,slow please" sign intact-
Just after where the trail splits,left for hiking, right for ATV's/bikes--there used to be some downed tree's to allow for foot traffic only, this has been cleared away-
As for possable repairs, the walkway accross the swampy area beside the "Lake" has partially collapsed-
 
The only other thing is the bridge just before the small scramble where the rope is-- only the middle log still has wire mesh and it's starting to get a bounce. The forest part of the trail is beautiful and clean, I didnt notice any garbage, even after the long weekend. The peak has a peacefullness about it and the views wonderful.
One last thing--What IS this???-
Jelly like, approx 6 inches accross
Is it the remains of two over amorous slugs or someones cold LOL (I should deleat that,but I wont LOL)

| It won't take long for ATV's to be up there now that the log has been cleared away. Hopefully they stop at the next junction before continuing up an obvious hiking trail. I have no idea what the slime is, maybe slug babies? |

| hey seeking.. :) so, how far could u get in a car? ie. how far would i have to walk to get to the TH? how bout in a jeep? i just love this hike - it was one of my first hikes so i'd like to back.. :) |

Hi CG, If you take a car I'd suggest parking at the real wide spot just this side of the yellow gate and rocks blocking the road ahead where the road to the TH splits off to the left as there is no way a car would make it. A jeep should be ok but it's a real rough ride.
Last January I was up there with Flowing-Brook and Mr B, we parked about a minute farther up the road. I cant remember how long it took to reach the TH but I just checked Lynn's TR and it mentions that with the extra walk it was 17 km's instead of 11km's, so that would make it an extra 3km's to the TH, 6km's total extra hiking.
On the way out I met two forestry trucks heading up, I wondered if they were checking out the road to possably make some improvements.
