Had not been to munro lake in a few years so it fit the bill. Needed a short hike we could do after my buddy got off work that was also close to his home. As it turned out he had to work all day and could not come :(

Pulled up to the TH just after the nice bridge at 3.5km marker and it's as skeetchy as ever. Beer bottles and signs of teens having fires, but no broken glass from car windows :) Two guys smoking pot in there car added to my fears.I had my wifes car (with nice mags and tires) instead of my work truck (which is less then worthless to break into)

Was very warm (car said 20C) so I really stressed about bring the snow shoes or not. In the end I decided that I could use the extra exercise of carring them up there. So I loaded up, waved at the stoners, and started the stair-master from hell.

It was pretty much what I remembered up... up... up... There is a very nice view point with a white sign that says "south view point loop". There is a 2nd view point, which is not nearly as well used but gives better views of the eastern mountians and Swany Set Golf Course. From the white sign if you look south (or down the hill) you will see some flagging it leads after a very short trip to a much smaller rock. My wife had the camera today which reallys sucks but I will go back soon.

At this point I noticed I did not have my sun glasses any more. Not that they cost alot but I wanted them for the snow :( Well no point in turning around so onto the lake I went. Snow started at 700m or so and quickly started to build in depth. By the lake the snow was 6-10 feet deep. Although the lake was covered in snow, walking on it did not look too smart at all, as large parts had started to change color from melting.

I did see some people up on a small ridge to the NE of the lake, and briefly considered going for it. But, I did not have a watch (as my phone died on the drive up) and I did not want to miss the game. So I turned around and headed back to the car. On the way down my sun glasses where hanging from a branch, where some one had placed them :)

Lots of people on the trail including 3 people with packs (wow) they had planned to camp at the lake and asked if there was snow ( I think they saw the snow shoes) I told them yes about 10 feet and they nearly died on the spot. Nice little trip took 3.5 hours with very little stopping

Wow, lucky with the sunglasses. Hope you enjoy the game. (Lots of people out for it this evening. Very full buses.)

Good to know about the snow, too. My first time up to Munro Lake was the end of June a couple of years ago, and there were still patches then. But at least the camping was summer mode by that time.

Nice report. Impressive how much snow still hangs around this time of year. And good someone placed your glasses for you to find.

Being one of the three guys that you met on your way down (and our way up), I can confirm that we did spend the night by Munro Lake and it was pretty chilly (we reckon that it was approximately -6c at about 3am). Thanks for the heads up about the snow. It at least prepared my expectations although I was still knocked back slightly when we got there.

This is a picture of two of us near the lake - http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrmrssell/3519549513/ and a picture of our camp - http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrmrssell/3520362192/.

I think I will wait until July before making that journey again
