I would like to make a suggestion: Can this thread be started new for each month, or maybe per year? Or season? I.e. Trail conditions 2010, or Summer 2010. Just an idea.

I agree with Rainmaker, splitting this up would be much more useful

I completed the Iceline Trail this weekend. Significant snow, but certainly passable. I posted some photos in this thread: http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=35743

In the Yoho Valley, almost all the snow is gone below 2000m, and there's up to 1 - 1.5 metres near the Iceline Summit and Kiwetinok Pass above 2200m.

Which day were you on the Iceline? I started up from Laughing Falls at 4pm on Saturday (July 3) but turned back a few hours later.

What's the point of splitting it up? To get the most recent conditions simply go to the last post on the last page and look back a few. Conditions reports are pretty useless after a bit of time goes by anyways.

I did the Iceline from Whiskyjack to Little Yoho on Thursday, Kiwetinok Pass on Friday, and the Marpole Connector, Twin Falls, and Yoho Glacier on Saturday.

What turned you back?

Hmm. I guess it's possible that we crossed paths. I was leading a group of mostly asian women.

We turned back along the Celeste Lake turnoff because the snow was getting worse, the rain seemed to be getting worse and I was afraid we'd run out of daylight. We'll go back in a few weeks.

I see no value in this. If it says there are new posts, just click on the last page to see them. It would be unnecessary clutter to start a new one all the time.

If anyone is planning any kind of high elevation activity in Jasper over the next few days, forget it. We have had torrential rains and snow for the last two day. Snow line is about 1400 meters and there's a lot of it. I was turned around on the Cavell road this morning in a complete whiteout. Maligne Lake road has six inches of snow on it and it's still puking down

Holy crap! 1400m is low for that much snow in July.

Tell me about it. Just happens to be my days off too. SUCKS. It's snowing in town, but it's not sticking. I bet that there'e a foot of snow on Old Man Mountain

Damn! I've got an EOC trip to Jasper this weekend. I hope the lower elevations melt down a bit. I had planned to take them up the Jacques Lake trail.

I'd really appreciate any more updates between now and Friday morning. We might wind up doing Valley of the Five Lakes or something similar if JL is too soggy. Any other suggestions?

I'm sure Jacques Lake will be fine by the weekend. It's supposed to clear up tomorrow. The trail is going to be muddy after Summit Lakes though, bring gaitors

Thanks Lobo. It's different when I'm on my own. I can wing it and change my route a lot better than when I have a dozen people tagging along behind me.

Some new snow showing up high in the alpine. A very active thunder storm lasting the better part of the morning right to the time I left in the early afternoon today ripping apart Morraine lake, enough so that no one I saw on the trail was heading very high into open terrain and it is currently making it's way through Banff.
