Why do we climb and ski? What is it out there, what pushes us,the thrill, ego,or the anticipation of the first turn.I do not have the answer, sometimes just being there in the moment is enough. One thing I know is when I come back to the real world I feel calm and revitalized.Passed on from my parents the mountains run deep in my blood and soul, sometimes they provide the only answer in the this fast paced world we now live in.Along with my brother and others I have pushed my abilities on many mountains in Alaska,BC,Washington, California,Montana,Wyoming,Alberta,Europe,South America, and little parts in between.Something about the local mountains still bring joy to my heart.Like the other day when I saw two young bucks riding there old clunker mountain bikes up Seymour with snowboards and skis on there backs. Why were they doing it,who knows,it sure looked like fun.And judging by the looks on there faces all the worries of the world were gone,it just looked simple in a complicated world. It brought me back twenty years, when I used to ride my mountain bike with my skis on my back.I was not trying to prove anything,I just needed a way to get to the hill, that just happend to be my form of transportation. What I started realizing even at a young age is how pure the outdoor experience can be in this form.

Nice report & pics. Why pay for a ski pass if you don't have to? No staff to tell you what to do up there! I guess this type of skiing has a freedom of its own.
Thanks for sharing. |

| It's nice to see you enjoying those beautiful mountains! I really love the mountains too and when I'm in the mountains, there's only the moment. Anyone who can enjoy and become one with the mountains is truly blessed. Great pictures and report! |

Ted Oliver is going to like this TR,Mike, and so do I. Every so often I like to do things a little differently or maybe the way I used to just to keep things fresh. |

| Well said. Every hike can be a new beginning, because of the soul searching one does along the way. |

Good to see people riding up,back to the roots. Not taliking about environment this and that.Just sitting on the bike and pedaling up the mountain just because they felt like it.In Europe this is normal.I guess in North America you are a second class citizen. |

I'd love to be able to ride more, stuff is just too far apart in this part of the world.
Nice rock climbing shoes! I have enough trouble stumbling around the frozen parking lots. |

Hi Mike,
Very nice to run into you at Seymour this past weekend, while we were tracking down beacons in the snow.
Have to say you have very nice zZeros and skis too. Maybe we can roll down the hill on skis together one day. |
