Hey I just was intrested if some people would be intrested in some back country snowshoeing up in the Kootnays?. I was up by Conkel lake just before the cold spell at the ranger cabin. I would like to go back to it and use it for a base of operations and hike the surrounding area. The area is very pretty it is in the Okanagan Highland east of Osoyoos, set amid a forest of western larch and lodgepole pine intermingling with willow and black alder that cover the sharply rising surrounding hills. The cabin is very nice and can accomodate 5 comfotable. It has a wood stove racks and is really nice considering it's locale. I want to hike the surrounding area and maybe get in a little ice fishing depending on the weather. The plan I want to leave on friday the 23 9 AM and take my F-150 as far as she will go hopefully the whole way in but I am not going to hold my breath even though I have chains and a Chainsaw.Be back monday night late. If we don't make it all the way we may have to hoof the rest of the way to the cabin which from the start is 23 km over rolling terrain with a pack to the cabin that is right from the start of the 4x4 road. Again hope to make it further in than that. What you should know. The area is isolated only one road in and out. Secound it is not called a 4x4 for nothing and it is winter so a little more tricky. Third it is very cold in the surrounding area be ready for -20 weather how ever the cabin stays supprisingly warm. If you are really intrested hey let me know I want to do this did the same thing last year with three friends it was a blast. I have room for five in the truck all I ask is you have your own kit which should include all the witer essenteils if you have read this far I am pretty sure you know what they are lol. We will probably reach the cabin around 5PM that evening set up go for a short boot about and some chow then see what happens. I will pay for gas up to the place and do not expect gas money from anyone all I ask is that you help out by meeting up at a locale that everyone can agree on that as of yet is unditermind. Really really want to go but cannot do it alone much to dangerous and my friends are in the CASCADES (LUCKY SOB'S). Reply if you are intrested or e-mail me at my college account Malthe.Danielsen@student.ucfv.ca
