I have decided to start carrying a 30 meter rope with me on my scrambling adventures. I really don't want to buy a new full length and cut it in half. I was thinking half a retired climbing rope would likely work.
If you have anything like that ( or a full length rope you have retired) and are willing to part with, please email me. |

Hi Tom,
I actually have a 60m rope I'll be retiring. It's a half rope so it's around 9.8mm but it has a double dry treatment and is in perfect working condition. (Used it for a multipitch trad climb 2 weeks ago.)
Only reason I'm retiring it is because I bought a new set of half ropes last week.
I'm on call this weekend so I'll be in Canmore all 3 days. You're more than welcome to pick it up. |

MEC sells 30m twin ropes in packages or half rope off the spool.
I thought we discussed this previously and determined that scrambling=no rope. |

Thx all. I am going to take Ken up on his generous offer.
swebster: you are absolutely correct. Scrambling does not require a rope. Except of course when it does. :)

Are you sure it's a half rope (double rope)??? 9.8 is really big for a half rope and singles go down to about 9ish these days. 8.5mm is more of a half rope size. |

I just checked and the rope is a 9.7mm half rope. It's made by Esprit Ropes which is a Canadian company based out of Parry Sound, Ontario. I bought it back when most people were leading with 10.5mm ropes. (No, not hemp!)
My new Petzl Dragonfly's are 8.2mm half ropes so it's quite the contrast. |

Ahh...I figured it might be an older rope, which is why I put "these days" in italics. |
