Hello from Utah!
For a long time, I've wanted to do a local five mile ridge walk around the St. George Neighborhood of Bloomington.

There's a bit of controversy over the "origin" of the name of the pioneer community. The Swiss settled the area and grew materials to make brooms. They sold the popular brooms all over the territory.
It became known as "BR-00mington. Later, they decided that BL-ooming-
ton would sound better. But, the current residents don't cotten to that history and say that their neighborhood was called BLoomington
because of all the pretty flowers blooming there. ahhh pride.

Hey, here is something way way cool!

In the early days of air-mail service, routes were set up with these arrows placed in increments. Pilots would look out their windows and use these arrows as directional signals. At night, there would be two gas lanters hung on the steel posts. In May of 1926, the first passenger flight from L.A. to Salt Lake passed right over this arrow.
I think I will try and find others on a rainy day with google earth.

Well, on to the Trail head.

Kinda sad. There is a land owner who wants to build right up against the cliffs where I walked. So, I figured I had better do this hike today. For only so many tomorrows exist before I am standing in someone's pool or BBQ pit. Here is the rest of the walk along the
rim.

What a desolate, burnt out area! Quite bleak... Except for the
views.

Well over a hundred, today. The humidity is a factor as the monsoon is blowing around and increasing every hour.

Next week, Friday, I am going to head up to Crack Canyon, slot canyon
and Goblin Valley. I am fully acclimated to the heat right now.
Ready to go. I went through 3 liters of water in this five miles
at over a hundred degrees with sweat dripping off the bill of my hat.
Hot!

Hee hee I love it! I've been riding around for the last month with the windows down and no AC to try and acclimate. Even the birds pant.
I've never seen birds in a parking lot panting, before. for real...
It's a bit humid, right now. Usually, our humidity is real low. under 20 percent. So, I should be right at home and have the place to myself, next weekend. yeehaw!

Did you ever visit this arch?

Hi, Flo-Bro! Knee's doing great! Feeling stronger everyday...
Thanks for asking! Now with the lowering price of gas, 3.81 per gallon, (down from 4.26) I can venture out further, next weekend without feeling like my treks are in excess. INXS... hee hee
Hi, Dusty! How ya feeling these days? Funny, the knee was feeling like it needed babied for quite awhile. And, boy, did I. hehe Then, a slight hyperextension by slipping on some gravel, doing the splits and falling on my keester, the knee popped and I almost sh@# !! All kinds of negative thoughts entered my mind. But....wait....hmmm
I didn't feel any pain, got up slowly, and felt great! I now have more range of motion and bend and degree of straightness than before the surgery. there's a gaging tool That the Therapist uses and it looks fantastic! Go figure.
Thanks! BG I'm going to the blog, shortly. We're thinking of you all. I got lots of treks lining up right now. Can't wait to get up that way, too!
Hi, ACS!! Wow! I wasn't aware of that. Nope, never made it to Arches. Was going to go last October but they got hit with the largest flash flooding where it rained and rained for a few days.
So, we cancelled. I want to head up there this fall, for sure.
Thanks for the snipet!

Always look forward to the pictures from Utah....one of my favorite places to travel to, whether I'm hiking or just laying around a nice pool.

Going up to Crack canyon (possible nudity) "crack canyon" hehe & Goblin Valley this Friday. yeehaw! Can't wait. It'll feel so so good to be in a slot canyon that I've never seen before. I avoid repeat visits to the same exact place unless it's a deeper exploration. Or, if I take other folks to share in the fun. New territory rocks! I am like a kid in a candy store. I won't be able to sleep before going. Probably be so tired going home that night. I'll have to start the
"GU" IV drip in the truck to keep awake. I'll leave about 4 a.m. and burn it out all day long! Then, head for home as the sun sets. My ranger friend who used to work up that way says I am off my nut!! I'll burn my buns on the rocks! He wouldn't touch Goblin Valley until fall. They rescued two college girls one time from SLC all dehydrated and disoriented from the heat.
I hope I fare well. I am pretty used to the heat, right now. Cheers!

Ah the desert, interesting view shots of the site and of the looming monsoon clouds. Credit to you for doing the hike in the 100+ heat.
