There is, although it is sometimes unstaffed. Also you need to stop in and register for a backcountry or camping pass anyway.

Thanks. Do you know if beef is allowed to cross the border? I know a few years they were confiscating any beef product.

Two years ago drove right in across the border, expecting security but there was none. Went for a drive along the roads and then out again.

Pretty sure they do not allow you to take beef cattle through the border.

There are no border guards there, and no official border crossing, but both the US and Canada Park rangers seem to keep a pretty close eye on things. That said, nobody has ever asked about my food.

The border crossing is "unmanned" at Hozomeen as the road to the south ends about 1 km or so past the border. There are a number of staff associated with the Hozomeen compund working for the US NPS, including maintenance and law enforcement rangers. all of the regular customs rules apply - not "supposed" to cross the border with potatoes, etc, etc. Not sure about the beef thing, but don't expect the staff there to make a big deal about it.
