I saw a recent discussion here about King Creek and Mount Hood so I'll post a short TR from our (Wietse, Kelly and I) scramble up Mount Hood on Saturday, July 19th.
The creek isn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. There is some dead fall, but nothing dramatic. The crossings were all clear and other than frost making the trees deadly slick in the morning, they were easily done with hiking poles.
The route is also very simple. Follow the left fork of the creek all the way up to the King Creek Ridge / Hood saddle. From the saddle go up to the base of Hood and follow a rough trail (not many cairns) to the Hood / Brock col. From here follow very obvious trail to the summit. The views were fantastic! Frost made the logs very slick:

The headwall where you finally leave the creek:

Grinding up the slope to the Hood / Brock col:

The last 250 vertical meters. Hood / Brock col in the background:

Amazing summit views - looking towards Kananaskis Lakes:

Looking east off the summit:

A bit off route on the way down:

Cool Vern. I love the look of the Opal range and would like to do something in there. I had never even been in that area until 2 weekends ago. The day after you were there, I took a lot of long looks from the Indefatigable North-South traverse!

But we certainly liked this scramble!
LOL! Nice, Wietse. A classic line straight from the man himself! I don't doubt that I may well enjoy looking at those peaks much more than going up them. |

Yeah - it has a remote feeling to it, even though the highway is relatively close by. The approach up the creek keeps the crowds out of here. This must be prime grizzly habitat though. We did see old diggings up near the saddle.
That quote from Kane is hilarious Wietse!

Hi Vic,
You are probably mistaken with a different Mt. Hood. This one is in Kananaskis and the closest town is Canmore about 35 km away (not counting Kananaskis Village).

vern.dewit and DCIPHER: Regarding Mt Hood's summit register, it looks to me that the quote could possibly be from someone other than Kane... It looks like someone could have wrote a sentence finishing with the words, 'Alan Kane'. Note the period after his name. Since we only see part of the message, we can only assume that the message is taken out of context.
On the other hand, there is a line space before his name and what looks like could be a date above...
Vern, perhaps you can shed some light on that message if you can remember the first part or verify whether or not it is a date (and what would that date be???).

| Granticulus, I was the one who took the picture and I do remember it was Alan Kane his post. Unfortunately I don't remember what was written above it though. The entry was somewhere in the mid 80's and in the front of the register. |

| Using my excellent powers of handwriting analysis, I would suggest that the letters in 'Alan Kane' and the rest of the message sure look like the same hand. |
