My partner and I are going to Yukon this summer. We'll canoe the yukon river and will finish our trip, with no car, in Dawson City. From there, our idea was to go to Tombstone Territorial Park and hike for some days, but I found that in Dawson city there aren't any rental car companies and there's no "public" transportation or anything to get to Tombstone. Any idea about how to get there? Is someone driving to Tombstone from Dawson around August 22nd? we'd share expenses and we also would be happy to have company hiking for 3-4 days if you wanna join us!

If you choose to stay at a local hotel/motel and speak nicely to the propriator or propriatoress while you book you may be able to arrange a local ride in and pick-up.
Of course you could always stick out a thumb too and hope for the best. |

If you talk to the people at the WestMark Inn, in Dawson, they run tour buses to Tombstone almost daily.
They will get you to the park for a price on their fancy bus and even have room for hiking packs underneath. I'm sure if you talked with them they could divide the price of a round trip ticket into separate pick up and drop off 4 days apart.
I used to work there. |

| Rent car in Whitehorse. Drive to Dawson. Park car, hitchhike back to Whitehorse. Canoe to Dawson, pick up car, continue. |

and pay for 2-3 weeks of car rental while you paddle in a canoe? and the extra 2 days travel time.
I think its worth rolling in to Dawson for the first time in a Canoe. Much different experience. |

That sounds great! way better than the other hitchhiking idea... I've just emailed them asking about that. |

Hi... that's the answer I got from them:
I regret to inform you that we will not be able to offer the requested service. I called our office in Dawson City and they offer tours to the park only. They are not authorized to transfer for drop off or pick up only to Tombstone Park. Although, they said you may contact the Visitors Center at 867-993-5566 and inquire about a cab service for transfer. Hope this information leads you to the answer you are seeking and have a great trip!
who knows, maybe, once in Dawson city I can talk to the bus driver and make it more unofficially...

| It's pretty easy to get a ride from Dawson to the Tombstones. Go to the visitor info centre and put up a note on the bulletin board (amongst all the other notes looking for rides so make it stand out), talk with others where you are staying (campground or hostel), ask around the coffee shop on front street, etc. There are lots of people heading up that way every day and getting a lift is not usually a problem, just takes time. Throwing in a case of beer or a few bucks doesn't hurt either and it's a great way to meet interesting people. |

ok yeah... after I posted that reply I had an idea that's what westmark would say..
If the Visitors Association doesn't have anything reasonable to offer then try talking directly with westmark dawson (not the head office) and they might more willing to even consider the idea - they do it for employees all the time.
Asking around and leaving a note for rides is a good way to go too. There's a board at the Visitors centre and in front of the "Trading Post" near the coffee shop on front street. |

| I've heard that Dieter at the Dawson City River Hostel (http://www.yukonhostels.com/new_vantours.html) will run people up to Tombstone TP. He lists a day trip on his site that goes every Friday... maybe you could go up with him and back the next Friday or get him to make a special trip? Worth checking into. |

hey! good news. I called this hostel (yukon hostel in Dawson city) and they say they take people to Tombstone. It's 1$/Km (roundtrip of 240KM) but if we can fill up the van with more people it's not that bad. thanks all! |

HI!
My wife and I we're going to Tombstone on August 14; we live in Whitehorse so we'll drive from there to Dawson and then to Tombstone.
If you change your plans, we will be more that happy to have company!. |
