With 4 days to play with (June 27-30)and the promise of perfect weather, my son & I set out for Marriott Meadows Friday morning. The trail was in good shape although boggy in the usual places and with a few, minor blow downs. The first significant snow was encountered at the lake immediately before the final grade to the meadows.

The meadows were still well buried with somewhere in the range of 60-100cm of snow

Although we brought a tent, the cabin was empty and the prospect of preparing a camp spot was something we decided to postpone at least one night. We paid our $ and fully appreciated the extraordinary amenities of the clean and well cared for cabin. Kudos to whoever was there last (but no kudos to the slobs whose crap & toilet paper was melting out of the snow in the immediate vicinity of the cabin and about 20 paces from the outhouse).

Saturday was just as perfect of a day as one could hope for with a clear sunny sky. We set out for Mount Marriott fully confident that we would not experience conditions that befell my daughter and I last year in August:

The snow made for an easy approach and we were able to take a much more direct route than that suggested in the Scrambles book.

The summit views denied to my daughter and I last year were absolutely spectacular and more than worth the return trip

On the descent - having encountered nobody else all day - we stopped for a shot of the mysterious Coleman sleeping bay and customized treking poles left in the saddle connecting the summit to the approach ridge. They were not faded or weathered and looked to have been left very recently.

Our return route was even more direct and involved some good boot skiing down the headwall above the 2nd lake (carefully avoiding the cornices).

Back at the cabin, we found 4 parties of 2 each had arrived. We enjoyed a sociable but early evening as everybody had plans for the next day; except for us. We slept in and then just messed around in the area near the cabin: particularly the little lake and waterfall close by where we engaged in some entertaining boulder rolling.

Monday was our departure day. Temperatures were cooler with a light overcast. Nonetheless, the snow in the meadows was about 1/2 the depth it had been on our arrival and much of the meadows were under water from prodigious snow melt from above. Parts of the trail skirting the lowest lake were entirely underwater.

All in all a great weekend. Only potential sour note was that somebody forgot a tent in the cabin (older, well used green Eureka tent). After some discussion with the others heading out, we decided it was best to leave it as we weren't sure how best to reunite it with its owners (it's hanging near the big picture window).

Nice report and glad you made the summit. We found the red sleeping bag and poles (Black Diamond) as well. There was no note, no name on them, and they looked recent (fresh) so just left them. Hopefully they will find their way home.

Excellant trip with son and hope he had fun. I remember reading your report with your daughter and without looking at the link you provided I believe the clouds rolled in and you had trouble getting to the peak and seeing the views. Glad it was much better on this trip. The pictures are stellar.
It is good to hear you and the other people at the cabin left other hikers forgotten or purposely left articles alone. The owners I am sure will really appreciate that when they finally get their stuff. On the other hand people should not be leaving their junk lying around to tempt others and nobody should have to pack your junk out and then have to look for the owners...

Great to see more young hikers out on the trail Do I sound old?
We saw the mysterious poles and sleeping bag at the same place too. First, we thought someone may be around the area. After we checked around and found nobody, then we thought it might be left to help whoever needs.

I always enjoy your TR's Chuck. You made the summit this time and even better, enjoyed it with your son! Is your daughter jealous...perhaps she was busy this time?

She was busy on a trip to Quebec City for their 400th birthday bash ... and she did it thanks to Federal and provincial tax dollars! So she wasn't too jealous.
