| I have lots of free time this summer and would like to go do a few hikes at night. Yeah I know going at night has any number of added dangers but I like to night hike it just fun. I would be up for some one that would like to go up the east canyon trail at golden ears or the cheif. I did it once with my friend john and we hit the top of the first peak just at dawn what a view. If this sounds like some thing you might like to do let me know and we can make up a trip. |

| I've also got quite a bit of free time, but work a lot of evenings from 4-midnight. By night hikes do you mean overnight? Or hiking in the dark? |

| Not if you know the trail it's not. (IMHO) Don't go exploring after dark though. |

The night hiking and the night wandering debates have already occurred multiple times on the board. Yes, hiking at night is more dangerous than hiking in light, but that does not make it a wild, reckless, or unreasonable activity. If it's out of your comfort zone, don't do it, and leave others in peace. (I'd love to join you, but I'm kinda far.) |

Might be the only way I'd get to see a sunrise from the top of a mountain, since I'm unlikely to wake up in time to see one. Being already awake sounds like a plan.
SNAFU, your profile made me laugh, especially the "occupation" part.
I'd consider a night hike, maybe later this summer, although I really am trying hard to reset my sleep schedule to conform to the rest of the world (unfortunately, morning people seem to have a stronghold on our society's rules/schedule).
Bring head protection in case you get whacked in the head by a confused owl. I can personally attest that it hurts!! |

I climbed Dierdre at night a couple years back, it was fantastic. The full moon appeared out over the cliff directly above us about halfway up, mostly negating the need for headlamps. There was nothing really to worry about in the dark, and it was very peaceful and beautiful.
Plus, no crowds!

I love night hiking and have lost track of the number of trails I've hiked in the dark. A few of them I've only ever done at night and some of them I hiked them in the dark the first/only time I ever hiked them. Hiking at night isn't dangerous, it's just a little riskier than doing them in daylight. To quote my first Trip Report on CT "I LOVE hiking at night, and after donning our packs we hit the trail. In the gathering dark, we watched the sunset through the trees and clouds, catching intermittent glimpses of a crimson, and black sky. The quiet that descends on the forest at this point is wonderful. It's like all of nature takes a big in drawn breath and holds it. Everything goes still, and you are the only moving, wakeful thing."
Post a sign-up saying where/when and if I can I'll come. |

I work most nights till 9:30 or 10. Would love to go hiking after that. Put something on the sign-up board and I'll try to make it.
(PS. Don't let my wife read this... yet) |

| My favourite part is when you're under the tree canopy and you can see all the pollen go past your headlamp beam :D |
