Hey Jim...

IMHO, what would be good, would be an "ignore" button, as in a bunch of other forums...

Then people can put me on "ignore", and I can put them on "ignore" too...

To placate the masses, you could also add a "favorites" button too, so that either way, we don't see the crap that some people constantly write, or we can go read what our "faves" are up to recently...

I'm just trying to build bridges here, and maybe improve the "rainy day" postings that we sometimes come across...

"For" and "Against" an "Ignore" button:

For: (Although we may never actually use it ('cos we're really all neat people, right)...

Aces
Snowseeker
Brucew (I think)
alpalmer (I think... from his positive comment on the "bivouac" thread)
OK'Jack

Against:

Wilderness Seeker (She has soooooooo much fun reading all the crap in this place)
Rachelo (She has her own personal version, except she has to first read it before she can ignore it)
Aqua Terra (Maybe you prefer Jim to do the deleting, Boris, but we're talking about an "Ignore" button, that simply lets us as individuals not read what other individuals may write)
cjb (oooops... sorry... someone's nose is outta joint)
Mick the Range
pmichaels
Coffeecup (love that sense of humor)
T2C
Blackfly
martin (he already has a built-in button on his screen)

Wanting to ignore themself: (Might pose technical problems, but worth a try)

johngenx

Already on my ignore list:

moses (Who gives a flying fork about his interests and what he thinks about me... he's not GOD !!!)
darren (for just not being able to comprehend the meaning of life)

Totally ignoring this thread:

The Hiker...

This "ignore" button is not one of a "Corporate, Club Tread" nature, it's simply one that will allow each of us (individually) to ignore any one or more of the other posters... Jeeze...

As a side note, I am also a member of Stockhouse and Agoracom... Both are really really good (now) 'cos since I have 98% of the people on "Ignore", I only get to read the good stuff... LOL !!!

And... If we had a button that allows the thread originator to delete the "garbage" postings on their own threads, I may have already deleted all of the ones below, but this is beginning to look interesting... What say you Jim ???

OK'Jack...

The asshat actually has an OK idea. Okjackoff is the first on my ignore list, if it becomes available.

Jesus, guys, take it around the corner into the alley! What do you think this is, cascadeclimbers.com? "I went to a bar fight and a climbing message board broke out."

I just thought of a brilliant Idea! Imagine if the author of a thread had the capability when logged in to delete any negative replies? Maybe the garbage can could appear on all replies within their thread, when the author is signed in and viewing it. If the author is mature enough to make a post, he/she would have good judgement on being able to delete any replies themselves that they feel are unnecessary. That way the Author could take some of the babysitting responsibilities away from Jim AND maybe it would deter some from making any negative gestures as they would be just wasting their time?

Just another Idear!

PS: Although for the bit of work involved to make that happen, unsure if it warrants or justifies the need, as there isn't a TON of negative gestures or complaints on a regular basis?

Nah...then you could delete even if you simply don't like their opinion. You can't shut people up so why should you be able to delete their post at will? Some people simply need to be called out on their bullshit.

An author of the thread should be able to tell what is or what isn't justifyable. Negative feedback is no big deal, rudeness wouldn't be hard to tell. Why would anyone want any rudeness in any threads?

I don't think I'd have anyone deleting my replies

You guys need to read the bullboards of stockhouse.com and then you'll realize that the posters of CT are an angelic bunch compared to what goes on there. We should be proud of ourselves for not needing an ingore button. I think thread locking is more appropriate. It gets the point across loud and clear.

You have a point Pmicheals BUT... Lets say someone innocently posts a good thread. Then a dweeb comes along and forces it locked, and it was not the initial authors intention for any BS amongst their thread, why penalize others?

You are right this place is heaven compared to other forums!

People here need to get thicker skin. Probably one of the tamest forums I have seen. You should see some of the mud slinging on other forums...it's crazy.

Nah it's just that if someone responsible posts something, and some people are fighting amongst it, why not let the Author delete them to prevent the thread from being locked?

Nothings worse than discussing something, and someone else comes in and gets the thread locked. It is smacking the hand of the author basically. It doesn't deter the dweeb that gets it locked.
