Hello,
I´m Julio from Brazil and I´ll be spending my vacation in the second half of september and first week of october in the canadian rockies and I´m looking for some hiking partners. My level of experience is moderate - I´m not a pro but I´ve already spent some months in the highlands of south america. Main interests areas are Lake Louise, Lake O´Hara, Lake Maligne, atabaska and Skoki. Regards |

Welcome to CT Julio. If your going to be out and about in the Canadian Rockies at that time of year I suggest you bring a warm sleeping bag. Its a good time to hike here because there will not be that many people out. The snow starts to fly in the high country in late September so be prepared.
If I can find the time then I will try and join you.
It is easy for me to meet in Jasper.
Take care

Hey Art,
Let me ask you a question - how warm should be my sleep. I was thinking in something aroud -1C but maybe I could use a -9C one. About the snow I was wondering if a 3 seasons tent will be able to hold for this time of the year. Hope to meet some buddies in Jasper/Banff. Good winds,

| It cerntainly depends on how you tend to sleep, but I'd definitely to be in the -10 range. I use that for a summer bag, though I sleep cold. By then end of september, if you're going to be going much of anywhere high - especially in jasper, -1 will be pretty chilly for most people. I think a 3-season tent would still likely be okay. There tends to be snow, but it's not a sustained everywhere snow. I guess you'd probably want to know though how your 3-season would hold up if it were to get a large dump one night. |

| If you can make it up a little earlier, I have the Elizabeth Parker hut booked for three nights in Lake O'Hara. (Sept 3-5) I've got it filled but could probably squeeze one Brazilian in as long as you don't mind laughing alot. |

Thanks for the advice about the sleeps and tent. I´ll probably get a -9C sleep. About the tent I´m looking to get a new one once I think my current is a little heavy - 3,1kg for a two persons 4 season. I´m looking for something about 2 kg that can hold still in the ending of september in Jasper backcountry. If someone has any suggestion I would be glad to know. About the invitation to Lake O´hara, I would be glad to join the team but unfortunatelly I´ll arrive at Calgary at sep 14. In best case I could go on Sept 7 but not prior than that. But tks for the invitation anyway. Good winds,

| Depending on how much tenting vs staying in huts you want to do, an option is to rent a tent from the University of Calgary Outdoor Program Center (they have various season tents and various sizes) for the time period you need it. That way you wouldn't necessarily have to carry the extra weight. The down side is of course you'd probably have to come into Calgary to pick it up and drop off. I'm not too sure if there is anywhere in Banff, or Jasper that you could potentially rent gear like that though. Something to think about. |
