Stryder and I have been doing long walks to train for our September Weekend to End Breast Cancer walk and this past Saturday, we decided to put in about 20 km out at Mud Bay. Hiking and treading isn't always about getting to the top of some distant obscure peak. It can just be a pleasant walk in a nice place. Sometimes I feel that CTers have forgotten about that aspect. This filled all the needs for that; new spring beach wild flowers, mud flats, birds, horses, views of farmland and the North Shore and Fraser Valley mountains and of course, good company for treading along with. We started off at the Mud Bay Park parking lot in Surrey off of Colebrook road and turned around when we reached 88th Avenue. Here's a few pics. And I can't help it, I just love taking pictures of pilings
#4 was our lunch "bench" and turnaround at 88th St.

| That's a great spot to get some distance. We usually see lots of eagles out there. Nice! |

tons of eagles. We saw tons of them and even saw an eagle attack another eagle. Must have been a territorial thing. When we do it again, I think we'll enter over by Boundary Bay airstrip Deltal Heritage Airpark there as that eliminates the 15minute section where you walk along the highway. Or maybe not. Still, it's a good place to bike or walk as it's a clear path for 20K all the way to Tswassen. So you could get in a 40K ride with a lunch stop in the Big T. |

It's a terrific spot all right. I often bike from home to the entrance of the dike at Beach Grove Road & 17A Ave, then along the dike to the Boundary Bay airport & have a snack at Rudy's Skyhawk Restaurant there, and bike back. So may eagles, hawks, herons, etc. and a mostly flat, easy ride of about 22km round trip - closer to 30km if I go to Delta Heritage Airpark. Easy unless the wind is kicking up - and it always seems to be a headwind, whichever way I'm going!
Glad you had a good walk! |

Hey, Kevin. Yeah we heard about that restaurant but never made it that far. If we start from Delta Heritage Air Park (which I mistakenly called Boundary Bay Airstrip) then we would definitely make it to the airport and the restaurant. Lots more walking to do there.
Yep, Anita, very friendly place to walk a husband, go for a run, take a bike ride, whatever |

Thanks for giving me an idea for another long scenic walk. I agree with your comment that one doesn't always have to pursue summits. (However, if I don't do hills on a regular basis, muscles that don't get a work-out with 20-km walks on flat terrain let me know in no uncertain terms that I've gotten sadly out of shape despite my extensive walking over the winter - as I found out this past weekend!) Nice pictures - I love the pilings and the daisies.

thanks greyowl. I do plenty enough summits so I don't worry about muscles getting out of shape |
