Went up to Phelix Creek on Friday. By the time we got to the trailhead, and started hiking it was about 10:20 PM. We went past the cut block and up the winter trail and got to the hut by about 3:20 AM. The reason for taking such a long time was that we were not familiar with the trail and the snow conditions were not optimal. We kept falling through the snow, specially near rocks and logs.... It was frustrating at times but we made it up to the Waddington Hut and after a quick snack, it was bed time. Woke up the next morning and started hiking up past the North Lake to the unnamed peak (which we initially thought was Shadowfax - the topo Map is a bit confusing or maybe we couldnt figure it out)...From there we made walked along the ridge and started scrambling up Gandalf. Beautiful views from the top. Then we started hiking on the ridge to get to the Gandalf-Aragorn col....some big cornices and scary avalanche debris on the way down from the ridge so we made sure we hurried up...Long day but totally worth it. Below are pics for your viewing pleasure.

Unnamed peak

Scary cornices

Same question as Scott regarding the road: this is right at the top of the "to do" list for either June or early July.

The road requires a 4WD HC vehicle beyond the 12 KM turnoff from Blackwater Road. If not, that will add approx 5-6 KM to the hike. There is a rock slide and some rocks might need to be moved out of the way ...we moved a few rocks off the road and a Toyota Tacoma was able to make it to near the trailhead...the last few hundred metres to the trailhead was blocked by a fallen tree. The snow starts past the cut block in patches and then as you gain elevation you will be walking on snow all the way to the hut.

Thanks for the update. It's good to know that the rock slide is driveable. I think we'll be doing some more trail work up there this summer to finish up what we started last year.

Some people in the VOC have started referring to the unnamed peak in your photo as "Frodo".
