I was thinking of attempting this climb at the end of June (or is it better to go latter?) but I don't know much about the conditions of the trail to Nobel Creek and then if there is a trail up the creek to the mountain? Looking on Google Earth it looks like the south-west glacier has shrunk and it now looks possible to climb without having to cross it (by going around on the north or south side?) Is this really possible? or should I be prepared for glacier crossings?

Hi,
I have a trip report of going up Mariner Mtn, from Bedwell Sound, that I wrote up for the Alpine Club a few years ago. I can send you a copy if you'd like (and anyone else that's serious about this mountain). We went up in early July 2004, about the same time of year as you plan.

We didn't find any crevasses on the route we were on and never pulled the rope out. That said, I wouldn't call it easy. It is remote, pristine and seldom visited.

A man from Ahousat told me that in past times they would go up the mountain to hear it speak. Apparently, there is a hole that the wind passes through and the mountain speaks. If you make it up there, keep your ears open.

Send me an e-mail if you want more info.

Peter
