Mt Burke is 44km west of Longview, Alberta, then south on Forestry Service Road 940 for approx 13km. Mt Burke offers a variety of terrain in the spring. 45 minutes up the left or north side of Salter Creek then a left to start the switchbacks to treeline. Lots of snow on the upper part of the trees so a bit of postholing but nothing too bad for very long, then up a steep slope to the ridge point then a fairly decent ridge walk to the old fire lookout.
From the parking lot just before you enter Cataract Creek Campground The trail up the creek disappears here and there then you hit an old road for a while until the left for the switchbacks up through the trees, yellow sign nailed to a tree at the left. About 45 minutes to this point. Just above treeline the step slope to the ridge point Your view once you hit the ridge point Yours truly at the ridge point The Summit with a contingent of the Calgary Outdoor Club arriving
Thanks for the invite to this one...Ever since you mentioned it about a month and a half ago, I've been quite interested. As you know, I had already committed to scrambling Morrowmount with the C.O.C.. You can see that TR here: http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=26460
Can you imagine how many scrambles I'd have done by now if I could be in two places at the same time???
