I heard a quick blurb about this on the news tonight but didn't really catch the story. Does anyone have any details?

Pulled this off the Provine's website.... Monday, August 11, 2003
Campbell River RCMP resumed the search for a hiker missing in Strathcona Provincial Park Sunday.
Richard Milner, 44, was last seen on July 29 leaving the Price Creek trailhead where his white pickup truck was found two days later.
On Saturday, an informal search party, consisting of two of his brothers Ted and Gerry and three others, retraced Richard's path hoping for clues to his disappearance. Both the informal search party and the RCMP canvassed the area all day Sunday.
Silia Milner, Ted's wife, said last night she hadn't heard if they'd come any closer to solving the mystery.
Hope they find him. (and in good shape).....B
As long as I have a Mt. to climb, I'll sleep later and rest when I'm dead. |

I herd about it while traveling back from gold river, I really wish the news would give more information such as which route or trail he was planning to do.

He was going for a seriously long hike if they only reported him missing the last day or two... he left on July 29!! He could be anywhere now. 10 days into Strathcona could bring you an awful long ways into the woods!
I couldn't find anything follow-ups on this story either...

I just rec'd this from Ashly at MEC. Think its good if we get the picture circulated a bit as well so there is more exposure.

i was in Strathcona Aug 2-4. No signs, no post, nothing informing public about a missing hiker, which is pretty bad.

i was in Strathcona Aug 2-4. No signs, no post, nothing informing public about Richard Milner, which is pretty bad.
Story from Vancouver Sun - August 6, 2003 The brother of Richard Milner, missing while hiking on Vancouver Island since last week, is appealing to anyone who might have seen his younger sibling.
Richard Milner disappeared while hiking on Price Creek Trail in Strathcona provincial park last Tuesday and the search was called off Sunday after running out of places to look, Ted Milner said Tuesday.
"They just ran out of places to look," he said. If anyone can place Richard Milner in a certain location it could cause the resumption of the search.
Ted Milner said search and rescue crews indicated they would resume the search if any information were to provide any clues of new areas to search.
Richard Milner, 44, was hiking alone on the 8.5 kilometre Price Creek Trail which leads to Cream Lake.
Ted Milner, a Simon Fraser University professor, said his brother is in extremely good shape and a capable outdoorsman. "Everyone is still full of hope," he said.
The hike is steep in locations, but is not considered a technical climb that would require special equipment or climbing skills.
Anyone who might have seen Milner is asked to call the police.
Richard Milner, a mechanical engineer, lives in Edmonton.

This is once again a great reminder to the rest of us to know your limits, to not deviate from your plan, tell a friend about your trip and expected return time, and of course, plan for the mishaps that can occur. Let's hope he's o.k.

I've been on the Price Creek to Cream Lake trail about 10 years ago... it is not a "dangerous" trail. There is no climbing or scrambling involved and no areas that one might fall off any embankments that I can remember. It might be easy to get lost on the last part before Cream Lake however, so hopefully they will find him soon just cold and hungry....
