Hello

Would anyone know about the drive to BAKER. Is a AWD car or Snow tires needed to go there or is the road similiar to whistler? ie clear on most days but not clear on snowy days.

SR 542 can be done in a regular vehicle if conditions allow. We've never had a problem but we go during ideal conditions and always carry chains.

You'll want to check the WSDOT site for current conditions.

You didn't mention if you were skiing or hiking so note the road is closed at the upper ski area most of the year - usually the snow melts out and you can get to Artist Point by late summer.

Do you mean access to Mt Baker resort or to Mt Baker itself? Assuming the former, then +1 for the previous post.

We were in Mt. Baker last year in the middle of summer and still couldn't drive up to the end of the road at Artist Point.
