I am a member on many other forums, and most of them have an option in my profile to be able to "Notify me of new replies" for threads.
Lets say I post a thread and someone replies, then I get an email notification...
Ever consider having that with clubtread? Maybe it is too much mail activity for the server constantly sending mail? (Pain?)
Just curious if this forum has it disabled or if it doesn't even have that feature?
Your thoughts chief? |

Not for me! Between my Gmail account and my home email, I get more than enough. |

| I had this feature on but toasted it a good 5-6 years ago because people said they were getting too many notifications. |

| I'm glad it doesn't. NSMB does, and my shaw account (which I never use anymore) is always full of useless "soandso has replies to the thread "gdkhdskfh" " e-mails. don't bring that feature back |

Any of the forums ive participated had the default not set, however one could turn it on/off.
It brings more people back to the site, more traffic this way. |

| CT is my (and I'm sure alot of other people's) homepage. Checking active topics since my last logon is quite adequate for keeping up to speed with what's going on. |

I really don't understand the feedback indicating that subscribing to a thread created too much unwanted email. Maybe this feature is misunderstood.
As you may know, the standard way to implement this is to enable the user to subscribe to a particular thread, not the whole forum.
Then, when there is a new post to that thread, the user only gets one notification until he clicks the email link and checks the thread. The end result is, if you subscribe to a thread, and someone updates it, and you don't go to that thread, you will never get another email.

Maybe you had this feature implemented in the wrong way. Surely getting one email is not really something you'd consider as "too many email notifications"? Personally I really relie in this feature in other forums I use such as delica.ca
So the only alternative I find is to bookmark a thread, which is what I'll have to do to see if there are any replies here. I've been trying it with this forum but in fact what it did was I had totally forgot this great forum existed for more than a year. If you bring this forum into the 20th century I think you'll find it will grow a lot in terms of importance and relevance. |

LOL well it is a nice feature to be defaulted as OPT'd out unless you check the box. Other forums Im in (trucks/fishing) I opt in to get an email, that way I don't have to keep checking and checking if there is an update. It is handy.
Yes I'm on here enough too So are you guys and gals! |

| Well, I'd stil like to have it offered as an option. After all, if you don't want it then you don't turn it on, right? Site admin's, are you listening, or is this falling on deaf ears? |

None of the feedback ever falls on deaf ears. Most here will know we spend tons of time trying to improve the site overall. It will be a matter of prioritizing it alongside other things. It made sense at the time to remove it as people were inadvertently subscribing to forums and then trying to figure out what to turn off. Will consider it for the todo list. |

| i often forget which threads I've posted in and find months later that someone had responded to or queried my post; i figured the site had a notification option but I was too daft to find it. |

I agree. It would be a nice option to get notified if someone responds to a thread I've posted in. As long as it's optional to subscribe to a thread and not enabled by default. |
