anyone else experiencing a VERY slow site these days?

each page takes minutes to load. Even when I have one window open on my browser, and no other program running (aside from the usual background ones). When I load a thread, it takes about half a minute to load in each person's comments, half minute by half minute.

This has been going on for about 3 days. Internet courtesy of Telus ADSL, and none of my other sites are this slow. Some of these sites are also discussion forums on a similar platform as CT.

Also on Telus ADSL -- and yet no problems whatsoever. Fast as usual.

It's always slow for me (I'm on dial-up)... However, in the last few days, it doesn't go back to "my last visit", but usually a day or two earlier... ;o(

No biggie...

the strangest thing is that all other sites are fine, but this one ain't. And this only happens at daytime, not right now for example.

It's a horror to see the photo banner load... wait...

see the tabs below the photo banner load and see a white screen punctuated by snowflakes... wait...

and here's the You are logged on as seawallrunner Logout Forum Guidelines Paypal Trail Wiki...

then the All forums...

...

each line taking a few seconds to load

then at last!

The dark blue Topic View appears! ...wait...

and a minute later the actual question or trip report!

it's *worse* than dialup

CT don't love me anymore

Of course CT do!...Maybe it's just that you visit on high traffic hours, like lunch time? Something to think about:)

No problem whatsoever here -- everything comes up instantly just like it always has .

Are you trying it from the same location during the day or somewhere else?

I figured out what is wrong - I booted up my computer about an hour ago and can finally see all the threads in Active Topics in CT

Norton's gone mad... or got very busy.

Whenever I boot up my computer, a Symantec AntiVirus background process is launched to scan all files that are open. This process slows my machine down upon bootup. I have to reconfigure it so that it behaves intelligently instead of scanning 200,000 files just as it wakes up.

This is why my internet access is normal at other times of the day (well after I have booted up my machine).

Ah say no more!~
Norton seems to be behind a lot of peoples perceived computer problems.

It's a resource control freak, gone wild.

My best suggestion: Remove Nortons Antivirus, it is garbage, every customer I deal with (pc repairs) I remove that program. Nothing but a system resource hog. AND if you use their internet security it adds a lame phishing filter which makes pages load slower as well.

I fixed a pc yesterday, we uninstalled Nortons (which usually is a pain too)... And we installed an antivirus I recommended and found 4 viruses all within 2 minutes of scanning. Waiting for the client to contact me back today to update me if it found more.

The AV I recommend is CA Antivirus, recommended by Microsoft:
http://shop.ca.com/virus/antivirus.aspx
$39.99 + $4 for extended download service.
It provides you with 3 serials for 3 different pc's for one low price.

Just the antivirus 2008 NOT the security suite or it will be similar to the overwhelming Nortons.

Having tried all the big names and even a few free ones like Panda & AVG (which I used for a few years) I went with Kaspersky. The guy that built my system showed me how they all compare and I have to say I'm very happy. Updates are in small packs. It takes out stuff AVG could never find, it's not a hog like Nortonor Macfee and in six months of use I have not had a single problem.
I'm running a Duo Core 2.33GHz with 2GB ram. Oh and XP PRO.
