Such as? This was a subject of discussion last night. One of the stations interviewed a lawyer who was very clear: in Canada there are no criminal charges for entering a closed area. The media is talking about "criminal negligence causing death". If there was a simple trespassing charge the police would use it.

As was stated earlier there's a big difference between out of bounds and a permanently closed area.

I've looked through the WB site and can't find any references to the permanently closed area policy. I do know that they have RCMP volunteers on the mountains at all times and that they will chase down people for entering permanently closed areas. I'm not sure if this is to ticket them or just to take their passes.

From one of the news articles:
"RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair said people who enter permanently closed areas, or who enter areas closed for avalanche control can have their ski passes revoked and face criminal charges if their actions lead to injury or death of other skiers."

To me setting off a slide in a permanently closed area is like throwing a piano off a high rise.

I shred thurs-sun. Khybers was stupid deep! Deepest powder I've ever ridden, so glad I was rockin' my 165...

Peak was only open for less than an hour on thursday... so there was essentially 120cm of untouched snow in the alpine. Disgusting.
