The announcement is on the WB website. I can't make it. I have to play a gig Saturday. I may get my first backcountry turns of the season Sunday though.

The wait is over.

I went last year firsrt day, expect a least a couple hour lineup for the Gondola and then you can enjoy the 2 lifts side by side and the 4 runs they service..just not worth the cake

Don't forget the cost of replacing your skis after you take a run down a hill covered in 3" of snow.

I recommend rentals until at least December.

You obviously don't love skiing enough

It's not about epic conditions. It's about THE FIRST DAY OF THE SEASON!

You fellows are correct. There's no snow here. Don't get involved in those useless line-ups. There's always hot coffee at Starbucks or Tim's!

But we'll miss you up here as we enjoy the freshies...

*caution* this post contains face rubbing and a bit of spray...
I've been out 4 times so far. Back country twice and resort twice. Going to be on #5 tommorrow (resort) and #6 on Sunday (backcountry). Meh...I can't believe they opened Sunshine today though....barely enough snow but hey, turns were had and that's the main thing.

Bring your rock skis. Heck, a couple more core shots wouldn't make a whole lot of difference anyway.

3"??

Last I checked, theres over 3'!

Wait, nevermind that. Your skis will be demolished if you go up this weekend. Best stay at home while us foolish people wreck our gear over a few inches of ice...

Well I'm not bitter because out here on the coast in July we were still making tracks on 3500ft ski runs.

T2C, how's the new AT setup working out. It looks like I'll get to try mine out on Sunday.

Whistler got another 10cm last night so they're up to 140cm at Pig Alley. The rocks usually rear their ugly heads until there's about 2m down. I hope they don't wreck the base like they did a few years ago by opening early. That year they got a warm spell that froze into an boilerplate that kept the trade routes icy all year.

I've had a couple of amazing first days in Whistler over the years. If you've got rock skis then Chunky's Choice is the place to be. So much fun with pow before the boulders get covered up.

wooooohoo, what a day yesterday! no line to get my pass, typical weekend lines on red and emerald (ie, none on red, 10 mins at emerald), lots of great snow if you were willing to hike for even just 5 mins out towards harmony, and only took one coreshot to my rock board. great times!

Couldn't be happier with it. Really light and they cruise at speed quite well.
