In the last two backpacking trips I've had with members, a few of us have started chatting about different regular events that possibly could be held. At present, in addition to the hikes that are going on throughout the week, we have monthly dinners at some restaurant in the area (think the next one is in Richmond).
The thought is to possibly have a second "monthly" event or something to that effect where we have a place (maybe a small hall or room or even part of a restaurant) where we can have a little presentation. The presentation could be on various topics including a trip report/slides, info on technique (ie. ultralighting), etc. etc. There are quite a few members of CT that definitely have the domain knowledge to present these. Also, alot of others have guest speakers come in and do something. I've talked to a few people now who think they probably could get a guest speaker from different avenues to present something.
What are people's thoughts on this? Any suggestions? Maybe we can start a thread on this and see where it leads...

I love this idea, I think the information would be so valuable to newcomers (some people dont like to feel like a nuisance asking so many questions on the site here), and a chance to meet people face to face is great. I think some people are a bit shy (myself included) at just signing up on trips posted with people they dont know or have only met once or twice. Im looking forward to the next CT dinner, I had a great time at the last one!
